So could it just simply be Piastri was driving better than Lando and now he's not?

Earlier in the season, there seemed to be a narrative that Piastri was a calmer driver than Norris, and Norris didn't handle the pressure well.  The last few weeks it does seem to have reversed a bit...

Ever since the team made Oscar hand back the spot because of a poor pitstop to Norris at Monza.

5 races since then.
Norris has beat Oscar in all 5 races
Norris has beat Oscar in all 2 sprint races
Norris has beat Oscar in all 2 sprint race qualifying
Norris has beat Oscar in 4 out of 5 race qualifying.

Since McLaren clinched the manufacturers title at Singapore, Oscar has failed to be in front of Norris in any practice session, sprint qualifying session, sprint race, normal qualifying session or normal race.
That is 0-14. (Would be 15 except Norris didn't drive 1 practice session for reserve driver)

So COULD the team be holding Oscar back? Absolutely.
WOULD the team be holding Oscar back? Potentially, its happened before with Webber vs Vettel at Red Bull.
Are the team holding Oscar back? Who knows. But to say its not possible or it would never happen goes against history. History repeats.

100%

That doesn't support the 'conspiracy' narrative though.

Yep.....when you dare raise or question things on touchy topics like Politics, health, covid or 'science' you are quickly branded a nutter or Tin head or Anti Vaxxier - yet those who brand you are then happy to sell their 'conspiracy theories' on everything from AFL to F1 in as though its a proven fact.

Funny that.

You got anyone in mind when you wrote that?

Why is Lando quicker than Piastri in qualifying?
Lando is quicker now but wasnt earlier in the season. Lando was also making all the mistakes early on, now its Piastri making all the errors and Lando is super clean. Why is Piastri making mistakes now, has the pressure got to him?
The question begs though, is Lando being given superior equipment and strategy? I think he is.

Both McLarens disqualified from Las Vegas GP, Max and Oscar no on 366, Norris on 390 24 points in front.
Oscar is Gonski IMO, is Norris, or Max, Go Max.
Game on.

Perhaps also the political influence of Red Bull, it brings Max back into the game.

There seems to be a lot of people at the top end of F1 very unhappy with the McLaren situation, and perhaps a few who are a bit unhappy with Zak Brown, ultimately F1 is a sport and many people want it to at least retain some semblance of being a competition fair or otherwise. Brown comes across as pure on the Sky broadcast but you have to keep in mind the Sky broadcast is as biased as any broadcasting crew you will ever find, the sophistry knows no limit.

As much as I want Oscar to do well, the situation at McLaren is so distasteful I'll probably end up barracking for Max as to me if he gets across the line at least he has deserved it. When you watch the season considering what happened to Lawson and Tsunoda, it's obvious how far ahead his compatriots Max really is. I really hope Norris' title hopes collapse in the final race.

I have never liked Max the person, however as a driver his talent is unmatched at present. Oscar has crapped the bed or had his bed crapped in by McLaren, either way he is no chance. I just can't stand Norris wining it the way he has but it seems inevitable, however if anyone can pull it off, Red Bull and Max can.

On the politics and broadcasting of F1, you have to be very careful what you believe.

Sky are doing a Caro at the moment following reports that Horner could rejoin Newey, this time at Astin Martin. It wasn;t that long ago Sky claimed Newey was so appauled by Horner that they couldn't be in the same room together, blaming Horner for Newey's departure form RBR. Now with Horner tipped to get the prime Aston Martin CEO job, apparently they are all luvy again with the miracle cure claimed to be a shared Oasis concert.

Sky are full of sh1t, they see Horner and Newey as the "dynamic save UK F1 duo", so it has flipped from hangman to talent agent.
