They are forever and a day trying to find the most humane way to execute people so nobody suffers for 1 second during the process....and its lead to this.

Go back to the french way of doing things and this won't be an issue.

I'm not a death penalty person but....
I was actually thinking the same thing.
Not many folks ended up in hospital after meeting madame guillotine (horrific as it was).

Seriously though...in this day and age surely it's not a difficult task to put someone to "sleep".
We seem to be able to do it to pets without much difficulty.

Isn't there a rule that if you survive a death penalty method you get set free? Or is that a myth?

Death row inmate Christa Pike has been taken to hospital after she was still alive following two lethal injections.

Christa’s heart was still beating and she was heard snoring despite being given doses of pentobarbital during her execution.

I think it's a myth. Apparently it's an old idea that if you survived a hanging, it was a sign of divine intervention. The current thinking / law is that if you are sentenced to death, you pretty much have to end up dead.

Yes, standard procedure in the USA is to provide appropriate medical treatment so that the person can regain their health for a rescheduled execution.  Botching the execution doesn't cancel the death sentence.

The other off thing about this case is that the crime was committed 31 years ago and it's 30 years since the the woman was sentenced to death.

What do you reckon?

Pike, who was sentenced to death in 1996 for the murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer, is said to have been rushed to hospital after her legal team handed in an emergency motion to stop her execution while it was happening.

I read that as.... after it was pretty obvious that they'd botched the execution her legal team sought an emergency motion to stop the whole thing.

(Edit-Apparently that's what happened.)

But why?

Why step in to save her from a certain death sentence and take her to hospital?

To me it reads like an intervention but meh, I care not.

Something i was listening to a month ago about this stuff sprang to mind with the above comment.

A prisoner on death row tried to kill himself.....i think a week (?) before his execution date by slitting his throat.
He was rushed to hospital, underwent surgery and survived. Only to be executed a week later.

The law is the law.
Doctors take an oath.

In the scheme of things, it doesn't always make sense.....but it is predictable.
