My advice is to not let doubters like myself degrade the experience! As Carlton supporters we all wish him well! Quote Selected 3 Likes
Re: Pre Game Promise AFL Rd20: Carlton vs St. Kilda Reply #65 – July 29, 2021, 10:43:29 am While Charlie’s return may be a little rushed, I think that it may be part of the long game. Teague has mentioned several times the importance of Charlie being happy. Perhaps getting him back on the park is as much about next season as it is about this one.As for Ross Lyon, his comments are no more informed than mine. Of course he can offer up an opinion, like askholes, everyone has them. He would know very little about Charlie’s form and fitness, and even less about his state of mind. Quote Selected 1 Likes

Re: Pre Game Promise AFL Rd20: Carlton vs St. Kilda Reply #67 – July 29, 2021, 11:23:41 am If he is properly prepared and ready to go, let him loose now so that he can work through any mental barriers, get confidence in his body and hit a preseason with no inhibitions and kill the 'Charlie Speculation'. It should not be a publicity stunt, but an important part of the preparation for a stuuuunnning 2022 for Charlie!! Quote Selected Last Edit: July 29, 2021, 11:25:24 am by townsendcalling
Re: Pre Game Promise AFL Rd20: Carlton vs St. Kilda Reply #68 – July 29, 2021, 11:50:46 am There is one question re the knee - is it more likely to be stronger (or less likely to buckle again) if he keeps resting it or are we well past that point?I would expect the latter otherwise he wouldn't be considered at any level.Fitness? He's a Curnow. A freak (and I mean that in a very complimentary way).Of course he'll be a bit rusty, but the guy knows how to play footy. He plays - and hopefully kicks 6.He needs to refind his 'footy legs'. Re: Pre Game Promise AFL Rd20: Carlton vs St. Kilda Reply #71 – July 29, 2021, 12:26:29 pm If Charlie plays then expectations have to be low.....he'll be rusty for sure but win or lose (the latter IMO), if he gets through the game then it's a win for him and the club. Similarly with McGovern, I'm not a fan of what he's brought to the club in 3 years but if he's fit then it's worth the punt.....it'll at least give us two marking forwards and allow Kennedy to play midfield where he's been really good for the last month and take a bit of pressure off Silvagni too....can't expect him to be the backup ruckman and the only marking bloke up forward. And with Kennedy in the middle, then Cripps can split his time between midfield and up forward....at least give St Kilda something to think about defensively, unlike last week against North. Re: Pre Game Promise AFL Rd20: Carlton vs St. Kilda Reply #72 – July 29, 2021, 12:36:50 pm YepIn his games the season he was injured Charlie had a slow start. If I remember correctly there were even a few post asking what was wrong with Curnow. Then he had that standout 7 goal game just before he was injured. That's what sticks in folk's mind. It's probably best to lower expectations...and if he does have a standout game, be pleasantly surprised Quote Selected
Re: Pre Game Promise AFL Rd20: Carlton vs St. Kilda Reply #73 – July 29, 2021, 12:52:35 pm The expectations should be low.We have 45 players who are on the list. Of those 45 players, we are missing:PlayerEddie Betts Ankle Expected to miss 1-2 weeks. Update: 26 July Jordan Boyd Knee "We won't see him for at least a month." Update: 6 JulyLevi Casboult Knee Returned to running. Unavailable this weekend. Update: 26 JulyDavid Cuningham Knee Out for remainder of season.Charlie Curnow Knee Increased his minutes in reserves scratch match on weekend. Update: 26 JulySam Docherty Ankle "He won't play again in the home-and-away season." Update: 26 JulyMichael Gibbons Hamstring Out for remainder of season. Update: 26 JulyJosh Honey Knee Missed last weekend: expected to be available this week. Update: 26 JulyCaleb Marchbank Knee Out for remainder of season.Oscar McDonald Back "We think he needs a couple of weeks of full training to get back to playing but it’s looking like we’ll see him again this year, which is really exciting." Update: 20 JulyMitch McGovern Hamstring Returning to action this weekend. Update: 26 JulyHarry McKay Toe An outside chance to play this weekend. Update: 26 JulyAlex Mirkov Knee "We're getting him in shape to play: whether he plays this year remains to be seen." Update: 13 JulySam Philp Groin Out for remainder of season.Marc Pittonet Ankle Returning to running this week: chance to return in final weeks of season. Update: 26 JulyWill Setterfield Groin Experiencing low-grade groin soreness. Unavailable this weekend. Update: 26 JulyZac Williams Hamstring Low-grade hamstring. Expected to miss 2-3 weeks. Update: 26 July17 through injury, If any of these guys play this week, they are coming in with no real form line.Of these 17, 2 (Eddie and Harry) have scored most of our goals for the season. 2 are high priced recruits (McGovern and Williams). 2 are our other ruck/forward stocks that are proven at AFL level, and would be nice to have them given the dearth of other options (Levi, Pittonet), 1 is a co Captain and former All Australian. 3 were supposed to be foundation players in our rebuild (Harry, Charlie and Cunners). We know players dont go through the season 100% fit, but most clubs would start to buckle with so many walk up start players being out injured at once. The fact that we have lost our first choices, AND our second choices is enough reason to worry about beating anyone who comes to play. From what I have seen, we have not really got anywhere near our best footy this season for a variety of reasons not solely on player availability, but its also to do with chemistry. Something you cant build any other way than playing games together. Quote Selected

And he's a difficult match up.Despite not performing for us (yet), the guy is a very able and talented footballer.Like Charlie, with X factor. And Bam Bam in the guts. Quote Selected 1 Likes
