Old timers squabbling about whatever?
Maybe the forum should take the Soylent Green approach, when the old timers get to 65 plus we just obliterate their accounts and turn them into biscuits....

Lods was pretty handy with chariots back in the day, I wonder if he could adapt to those new fangled round wheels though…? 🤔

I can drive a manual OK, but I'm not comfortable with the new automatics, which basically drive themselves...and don't get me started on those electric models. ::)

You got the insulted bit right NT, maybe we should have a rookie list on the forum where ageing posters can be put on before being delisted.
We can all wear our cardigans and have our own special thread about Viagra and Hearing aids etc...
Reckon Lods would be a very safe Chariot driver, think he has a Corolla from memory😃👍.

The way I used the phrase "old timers" was to denote people who have been on these forums forever, i.e "an experienced or long serving person." This is a perfectly legit definition of the phrase. It can also be used to indicate an old person. At any rate, I apologise if you found this to be insulting or derogatory, although I would prefer it if you approached me directly rather than engaging in back door, indirect, inflammatory jibes.

The facts don't lie. The majority of regulars on here are :
a. over 50, and the rest are over 40
b. white.
c. male
d. Victorian
e. Carlton supporters

This forum was set up for Carlton fans, so I have no issue with point e. It is perfectly reasonable and to be expected. Some people may have no issue with points a to d, but I do. I think the site experience would be better with greater diversity.

I feel like I should be apologising for being a white male over 50 from Victoria.
My indirect jibes were more in jest than inflammatory but I seem to have the perception you think us old Victorian Whities are holding back progression on this forum and our old timer chat is putting off new younger members?

I don't think there's a lot wrong with your demographics.
Funny thing is the moderating/admin team of the site has often been made up of interstaters and/or females.


But on the general forum we've developed into a comfortable little niche group.
That probably occurs more because people leave for various reasons, rather than being driven away.
Tastes change and young people find different interests.
Others who find the site fills a need in their life, even a small one, stick with it.
Over a 25 year period there has been significant change in the way football fans access their social and news media.
People these days often want the quick fix.
At one time, when I first became involved, the main attraction for me was the information a forum like this gave me, especially being an interstater.
We had two or three people giving us direct training reports.
'Going ons' around the club could only be found on the forums.

Nowadays that sort of thing is readily available on facebook, the club website or the media.

So...we may have a problem now, but what's the solution?
How do you attract new blood.

...and that's how we lose folks.
It also happens with coaches, players admin etc,  when something pervades other threads.
It causes moderators grief and frustration.(This thread is about spam...but we're well off track and I'm as much to blame as anyone).
It's cost us some of our best posters who have been both fed up with it, but also offenders called to account.

There are reasons why we have a low female membership.
I know of one who was told to move on and she believed it wasn’t just her that received that treatment.

Because of who we are, the site has a “feel” that reflects that, nothing more or less.
