VFL 2024 Rd 20: Carlton vs Geelong in Geelong

11:05 next Saturday in Geelong. Geelong have been the only team to really smash the 2's this year.

What a victory! A 120+ point turnaround!
7 goals to Liam McMahon! 30 possessions to Cooper Lord. We kicked the last 6 goals of the game to come from behind! I'm going to enjoy watching this one!
[1] Binns was held to 16 possessions, probably his lowest in our colours. What are we going to do with him?
[2] Mirkov had 45 taps and 9. I repeat, 9 clearances! Some weeks he doesn't have 9 possessions! Only one mark, though.
[3] No Lewis Young. He's the travelling emergency. I hope Charlie is fit enough, because I'm not confident in Young as  FF.
[4] 19 possessions to Ashton Moir - his best, I think. Can he repeat the performance? Interesting question.
After his last good game, he barely got a touch the next week.
[5] 7 possessions to Corey Durdin. :(  :(  I know he is coming back from injury, but I'm really worried about where his future lies. He should be getting more ball at this level.
Rob Monahan had only 3 possessions, but he is a neophyte. He may even have been injured, as he usually does better than that. Small Durds is a serious worry.
[6] Harry Lemmey had an ordinary game: 10 possessions and 1 goal. He did some ruckwork as well. Must have been better last week. Patience...

Nice summary, Capt Crash.

Amazing last qtr from us.

Really buoyed by Moir's performance. And Cooper Lord continues to grow.

No Young or Carroll... Carroll the travelling sub and Young in for Charles? If so, I hope Young goes down back and Kemp goes to FF.

Despite being down on possessions Binns used the footy very well, I would have him among the best.

Hearing reports that we might have found one in Cooper Lord.    He is obviously a midfielder, but can anyone tell us how he plays?

Can't take much from that game, Handbaggers went in without an experienced ruckmen, Mirkov's main opponent was a basketball convert who hardly touched it leaving Mirkov to have his best game ever. Rucking or being called a ruck doesn't make you a ruck.

Lord is strong, defensively accountable. not quick but hard running and high endurance, sound skills.  His defensive accountability is his most valuable asset in terms of what Carlton lack in the existing lineup.  He doesn't bring pace or sublime skills but he brings grit, sound skills and defensive workrate.

Mirkov was a volleyballer, so same same.

Mirkov might have just a little more experience than his opponent, but everyone has to start somewhere.
It was very nice to have the best ruck on the ground for a change.

I just looked at the highlights, and the game appeared to be very open. The running from the Blues seemed to be pretty good. Not sure Moir or McMahon would have appreciated a more congested game, but you can only play the opponent that is there.
Nice to win without so many important players.

Oh contraire Spotted One. If you recall what Mirk was dishing up around 6 weeks ago compared to yesterday, there's plenty you can take from his effort. Still a fair way to go, but he's heading in the right direction.
