Motlop in the guts.....finally. Bit bloody late though.

He gets ridden into the ground, but no free kick.

TDK is not capable of solo rucking against heavy bodies for 4-qtrs, until we give up on that tactic we'll continue to be run over. Maybe he is leaving so we are happy to run him into the ground, but we are harming our own chances in the process.

TDK's go is run, run-down tackles, linking and pushing into F50 as a marking option.

Instead we are letting opposition take the run out of his legs, we've taking a racehorse and turned him into a bulldozer, and it hurts right where we should be dominant.

Today we are playing GWS, they have Kieran Briggs who cannot possible run with TDK, Briggs is not in the same class of aerobic capacity, agility or pace, yet we have TDK basically wrestling with him one on one.

Our tactics are mind numbingly stupid.

Yeah we are a dumb footy club tbh
And I reckon TDK mind is made up. He’s just cruising last month or so.

With the side we have, we are essentially playing 2 rucks....just not doing enough rucking from others.

What is youngs role in the side today?

He is a waste of space.
He is a waste of rotation.
He has offered us nothing.
Was he backup ruck? How many contests has he been in? I've seen McKay and Cripps take plenty

We have Weitering and OFarrell  as key backs.
We have Harry and Charlie as key forwards
We have Haynes and McGovern as 3rd talls.
What is Young??

TDK hasn't and doesn't need to ruck 'solo' for 4-quarters. He's had help. He isn't the issue.
Playing 'passengers' like Young is the issue.
0 tackles, 0 hitouts 7 touches

I agree with this - I think he’s gone and they know it. I wonder if that is the cause of malaise in this team? Sure the club is bigger than the individual but surely it has an impact.

we have much bigger problems then a back up utility.

Concepts that imply sacrificing a strength to bolster a weakness are flawed, AFL is a sport that rewards those who win the football, if you can't win the football you won't win the game.

Using it well only comes about after you win it, and you have to win it with sufficient efficiency that allows you to reliably make use of it.

We win plenty, but often it's a pressured last gasp victory and we're unable to use it, we've no run, no awareness, no vision, no time and no space, we are fatigued and panicked and turn it over.

Yep, its the MC that pick players we don't need, don't use and offer us nothing.
I said last week that we went in 1 too tall and looked for lightning to strike twice (like against st. kilda) and the crows thumped us.

So what did we learn? Nothing.

If the season is as shot as you suggest. What have we got to learn by playing Young? Take him out and bring in Lucas Camporeale or some other kid who can benefit from the game and give us run.

We can win the ball. 1 ruck or 2.....or zero.
We can't use the ball well enough.
We tire late in games because we don't have enough rotations through the middle.

Strengthening our ability to win the ball by adding a 2nd standalone ruck will strengthen our ability....initially.
It does nothing to strengthen our ability to win the ball at the end of the game, rather it hinders it, because we are expected too much from too few. It appears if you stop cripps you stop carlton. Why not give him extra help in the form of midfielders so he can go harder for longer.

....the same concept you are applying to TDK can be applied to our midfield

Much of our current winning the footy comes as a turnover, but often after an earlier mistake, on the HBF, on the HFF, in the centre, in transition, it's not just about stoppages either in the midfield or around the ground.

We fight and fight to win the footy, often do win it, but rarely use it efficiently, too many of those wins have come at the end of a earlier chain of mistakes, we have spent all our energy fighting to win it back from an earlier mistake. Rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat, until we have no physical fight left and the opposition score relatively freely.

We batter ourselves against a brick wall, taking many swings and missing, like one of Mohammad Ali's opponents we punch ourselves stupid without landing a blow!

We are compounding the mistakes, it's a stupidity.

We also have a rather largish squad, yet we are easy to play against, we watch our medium smalls get squashed under opposition, we scream about it! Yet, we rarely hurt opposition medium or smalls. Week after week we see Motlop, Fogarty, Hollands, Durdin, dumped in crushing tackles. When did you last see McGovern, Cripps, Weitering, McKay, Charlie, TDK, Young, etc., etc., squash an opposition medium / small? Today Cerra probably was the only player to issue a crushing tackle, a tackle that cause some physical duress.

We are more likely to be bemoaning one of our KPPs being smashed than ever see them crunch and opposition midget, the midgets play against us with impunity! We might well be tiring to play against, but we aren't hard or uncomfortable to play against despite being obviously large!

Weitering had the chance to absolutely destroy jesse Hogan on the wing and didn't put his body through him in the marking contest.

These are fundamentals.  You get the chance to crunch your opponent fairly and don't take it.  Then when he sticks a knife in with his accuracy you mope?  Nup.  Be more ruthless than that.
