Youth Crime in Victoria

God bless the citizens who stood up to the young thugs at Northland yesterday and performed citizens arrests. They should get bravery awards. Dip crap Jacinta Allan has brought fwd the machete ban laws (farken miracle), WTF was she waiting until Sep for?
These young dogs need to be punished to the full extent of the law, its lucky an innocent person wasnt killed.

A machete ban is pointless, the people involved can make a cheap version in their backyard from scrap offcuts, they don't need it to be hardened or tempered, just sharp. The only people who will obey such a ban are the people who wouldn't use them for crime anyway!

Furthermore, most of the example machetes being pumped up by the media and police are actually diving knifes.

Bail laws need changing, allowing these gang members back out after violent acts is wrong. I don't care about their ages either, it's going to end badly one day when Police feel threatened enough to shoot one of these kids and maybe then these gangs and others who want to threaten citizens, shop owners get the message. It will be like the USA or even worse like South Africa where the police are happy to use extreme violence to deal with this stuff if we don't get tougher on these thugs.

Reminds me of the Northland of my youth and hoping not to bump into the Crevally Street or Heidelberg Boys 🤞

While I don’t think there’s a simple solution to the bail laws, there’s a strong argument for remanding anyone charged with an offence while on bail.

A big part of the issue is our brain dead governments allowing high numbers of immigrants arrive from countries that are war torn where violence fueled gang cultures are the norm into our state and then try and control them with tactics they laugh at like weak bail conditions and light sentences.  I know i will likely be branded racist but the facts are their values just don't align with ours but the polies get votes from them so its going to continue.

Should be a law that within the first 5 years of arriving if you commit any serious charge you are out and sent back but of course that wont ever happen as we are too nice here so get used to it as this is just the start.

Banning the sale of machetes or any other sharp objects such as butcher knives, kitchen knives, fishing knives etc etc is not the answer imo. Where do you stop with that? We need strong deterrents to people actually carrying weapons or potential weapons in public places. Ok, many details would need to be resolved but we should start there.
I agree, people committing serious crimes whilst on bail should be immediately remanded.
Reality always wins in the end.

But most of the youths involved in the Northland fracas were Caucasians ... just as they were when they had brawls there when I was a teenager.

My youngest grandson is in grade 4 .  One of his classmates got "excited" last week and went off to find his grade 5 mate.  They came back and proceeded to bash my grandson and his mates.  They paid particular attention to one of the boys who has a darker complexion, bashing him repeatedly and calling him a "black monkey". 

Where does that come from; brain dead parents who teach their kids racist attitudes from a young age?

I've spent this afternoon trying to look at crime in Victoria based on ethnicity / place of birth. By the time you factor in variables, gaps in data collection etc., it's not at all clear there's a direct link between place of birth and crime.

One thing that is crystal clear is that recent immigrants don't have a monopoly on crime.  However, that has never stopped the folk who have been here for a generation or more blaming the most recent arrivals.  Xenophobia is alive and well  :(

If you look at the physical number of crimes, including youth crime, the majority are committed by people born here. You can go deeper from that starting point, but it starts to get messy and unclear.

I agree with Shawny, My daughter lived out at Fraser Rise for a while on an estate in the far West of Melbourne and had a Sudanese gang attack and smash all the cars in her street as well as try and force entry to her home to steal her car and was only saved by her two large dogs who cornered one offender in the backyard and the others ran away. The same gang ransacked the local supermarket on a regular basis and with the nearest police half an hour away due to the closure of her local station at 5pm it was unsafe to live there and she relocated to the Eastern suburbs.
Watergardens was her previous main Shopping centre and has had numerous incidents of stabbings, gang fights etc but its become too politically sensitive to name offenders by colour, country of origin/descent etc being under age.
Machete's as a weapon of choice isnt part of Australian culture and has been imported into the country from overseas along with this teenage gang warfare and Shawny is spot on with who are in the main the major culprits imho.
Yep there have always been gangs in Australia like any country but never in my time have we had shopping centres as the battleground for gangs fighting in open public and its something you equate to gated estates and Soweto in South Africa where we are heading in Australia.

I agree, people committing serious crimes whilst on bail should be immediately remanded.
Tougher bail and remand laws, tougher penalties especially for repeat offenders, deportation for gang members that are not PR's.

Sure mostly people from here, but its ethnic gangs be it middle eastern crime gangs, African/sudenese hired by the MECGs to to the dirty work when it comes to stolen cars/property and property damage.
The incident at Northland was young kids (high school age) wanting to settle differences with knives, once upon a time time it was with fists. My niece and sister were caught up in it (ie had to be evacuated). When me niece and husband went back to their car, balaclavad kids were sitting in a car next to theirs. My nephew saw the balaclava wearing youths the day before, apparently the other mob didn't show up is it was all pre-organised.
The police say they know who all the participants are and more arrests are imminent. Thats great, but make sure they are "pounded" with every legal means possible. The problem is that they will only get a slap on the wrist and the cycle will repeat.

I think the best way to look at this stuff is not by totals, but by %'s of ethnicity.
That is sudanese for example, will be fewer in number than greeks. However, they may commit the same amount of crimes in total.
But if there is 10 times as many greeks compared to sudanese, than that means sudanese are doing 10 times more per person.
Simplistically.

Your school example is horrible and disgusting but it works both ways - speak to folk that live in the west (don't go off media reporting) actually speak to them as they live in constant fear and wont dare walk there dog after dark. What happened at your grandsons school is done daily in these areas but by adults the other way around. 

I know a lot of police officers and they all tell me the amount of crime is out of control in those areas and the gangs doing the bulk of it are usually avoiding being named in the media for obvious reasons.

Its like what the AFL do with protecting their brand regarding positive drug results from players. From the outside it looks like there is no issue.  Yeah right
