McGovern did a hamstring at training; he'll miss three weeks. :(
Doesn't look like Silvagni will be available anytime soon either. :(  :(

No H for at least another week. :(
We might get Saad back.

Gov and Fantasia time to stamp their papers and free up some cap space.

O Farrel and Kemp are fine to run with in 26

I'm tempted at times to retain Fantasia because he has some idea about playing as a small forward, but his body simply isn't up to it anymore.  It's a sad indictment on the group when a bloke who is essentially finished is our only small forward with any footballing IQ.
DrE is no more... you ok with that harmonica man?

Yep.  Its an opportunity cost discussion.  We see it with Fantasia.  Thing is, its not just playing as a small forward goal sneak.  He does high half forward creative stuff, and can play on a wing too.  He is also a player that can swim against the tide.  Doesnt rely on the team playing well to make an impact like others who tend to go in and out of a game.

So, contract money isnt a factor, he wont be on much given his history and options.
List position has become less of an issue.  The opportunity cost isnt as great with the long term injury list and pre season top up players.  You get to replace him if you gamble and he breaks down, (but only if you put a line through him for the season) so at worst he only occupies a spot for half a year.  HOWEVER, you are then on top up players from the VFL.  The mid season draftees make an impact but they arent long term prospects (ordinarily).
Draft wise, its just pick 80 odd thats replacing him, or the ability to retain a different player.  I wonder had we not signed Fantasia, do we let go of Kennedy and Owies the same way?  Hard to tell.

Ultimately, it wouldnt surprise me to keep him.  He is an experienced head, that actually might show leadership, something we need more of not less of.  He turns 30 in September.  Perhaps if we looked like challenging without him, you would gamble on him, but I dont see the point.  Id say to him keep training and approach 2026 like you are on the list, and we will relist you as a top up player if someone is ruled out for the year.  Its only happened for the last 10 years in a row for us where someone has a pre season breakdown so odds are pretty good.  He probably wont get a look in anywhere else anyway.

I was one of the most vocal against his recruitment but in hindsight I think it showed that the club had major concerns about the small forward group back then.  I suspect Fantasia was brought in to mentor not play, and that he had to play is an indictment on the ground level forwards group.  You don't need to be Nostradamus to suggest that Ty Gresham might be in navy blue next year.
I agree that Fantasia contributes higher up the ground, our 'high half forwards' cupboard is bare.

You need A grade small forwards to be decent finals team, probably more important than having A grade KP forwards but our football dept at the club cant get its head around the basics of the modern game. Recruiting the likes of Fantasia and Evans shows how hopeless we are and bereft of talent, the List Management team should be fired immediately.

A slight derail perhaps but the graphic floating around touting Gresham as our new saviour doesn’t list any tackles... if accurate I cant see that ending well.
Let’s go BIG !

Said it before that I have seen him play down at Scotch College and never been sold on him, I dont go often so maybe I have missed his good games but I find him stock standard ok at most skills but not having a weapon skill that makes him a standout.
Tackling is an issue because of his size, he is very small and would have real trouble at VFL level making them stick imho.

speaking of tackling, I heard a stat the other day which astounded me. Matty Rowell has laid 41 tackles in his last three games! Most of our blokes wouldnt lay 41 tackles in a year.
2021-Pi$$ or get off the pot
2022- Real Deal or more of the same? 0.6%
2023- "Raise the Standard" - M. Voss Another year wasted Bar Set
2024-Back to the drawing boardNo excuses, its time
2025-Carlton can win the 2025 AFL Premiership

Durdin and Fogarty lay plenty of tackles... don't both the goal ump, but lay loads of tackles!!
Only our ruthless best, from Board to bootstudders will get us no. 17

It's not a one off either for Rowell
The guy is a tackling machine.

2022 -30 in 3 games, 47 in 5 games
2023-32 in 3 games and 36 in another 3.... 17 in one game
2024-33 in 3 games, 48 in 4 games....in a 8 game streak he made 85 tackles
2025-He's made 147 so far this year including the 41 in the last 3 games and 88 in the last 7 :o  :o

(but he's not the best Tom Atkins at Geelong has made 164 at a slightly better average)
Cripps is our best at 95.

Durds 21 in 10 games (2.1 a game), Fog 61 in 15 games (4 a game), nowhere near 13.6 a game.
