We've played a tremendous first half of football.

Not the first time this year.

However, like VERY early on in the year, we have a tendency to fall off the planet without a moments notice.
Hopefully, we buck that trend.

We've got a lot of young blokes, in, they will likely fade a bit especially in heavy weather, if they don't then good for them!

I suspect one of the reasons why it's better is that nobody is sitting back waiting for one someone to clear the footy, there are less options so there is less hesitation. They aren't looking at each other wondering who's turn it is to crack in, they just have to go every time and as a result we look better.
Our side near always functions better with half a side or more missing. Just the coach never worked that out.

Carlton Rooms, players eating like there is no tomorrow and their last ever meal. Freo rooms, a few fluids and that's its.
Any wonder our third qtrs are crap, they have what's called fiacca in Italian (pronounced fi-ukka and translates to sluggish or no energy). We call it food coma.

Hewetts stats are very good for someone who plays a full game.
He's done it in a half.

This is the style of football similar to what we played in that run in 2023.
Pressure at the contest, multiple players in the tackles, repeat efforts.
It's basically our 'brand'
And it's competitive against any side.

The problem we've had is in recent times is that it's not been sustainable.
It's high intensity and it can be exhausting.
Good for a quarter, Good for a half.

It will take a huge effort to take this into the second half and maintain it.
There is a reason Freo are where they are on the ladder.
Let's see whether our side are up to it, but kudos for reminding us what it can be like when we bring the pressure and effort.

We've had more of the ball, even though neither Weitering nor Lewis Young have touched it yet!

Tackles inside 50: 5 to 0!

Actually, Weitering and Young both made some effective spoils so, no possessions but a couple of touches each 🙂

Melbourne and Fremantle are our b!tches.
We seem to match up well against them and are more likely to get a win against them.

The other 15 teams, less so.
