Jim Park Voting 2025 Rd 23 Carlton vs Port Adelaide

Voting is as usual: you have 15 votes to award pretty much as you will, with the following provisos:
[1] 15 votes in total, no more, no less.
[2] No more than 10 votes for any one player (even Sam Walsh or Patrick Cripps)
[3] Three players at least must get a mention.
[4] A grade for the game, A+ (what I want to see) to F-.

Voting in recent times has been hard yakka: it is no big surprise that we haven't had many voters. Today is going to be a different beast: 15 votes simply isn't enough to reward all the winner we had today.
Damn, but I wish we could do that more often!
H was tremendous!
Sam Walsh was brilliant, and he didn't even play that much of the game.
Cripps: ditto: surprising he was 'rested' for much of the last quarter and killing Port for 3 quarters.
Nick Haynes was brilliant.
Blake Acres played his best game for the year and showed why we wanted him.
George: another 35 possessions.
Zac Williams: an excellent game.
I could go on.

I will vote after dinner.

AFL Rd 23 2025   Carlton vs Port Adelaide
Team :      A
I have to give us an A after a 9-goal win when we’ve been so ordinary. The first half was better than A+, the 3rd quarter was questionable and the last was good until the last ten minutes. Even then, our defenders did a very positive job.

Votes:
15 votes: This is not going to be easy.
[2.5]   Harry McKay
[1.5]   Sam Walsh
[1.5]   Patrick Cripps
[1.5]   Nick Haynes
[1.5]   Blake Acres
[1.5]   George Hewett
[1]   Lachie Cowan
[1]   Zac Williams
[0.5]   Tom de Koning
[0.5]   Lewis Young
[0.5]   Ollie Hollands
[0.5]   Francis Evans
[0.5]   Jacob Weitering
[0.5]   Matt Carroll

Explanations:
[2.5]   Harry McKay:      Deserves twice this, but that is the problem when we actually play well. H had 21 possessions as a key forward, 6 marks, all contested, 3 clearances and a couple of tackles. As dominant a game from a key forward as we’ve seen.
[1.5]   Sam Walsh:      Walsh was struggling before his injury, but he wasn’t struggling today. His pace was back, his line breaking was back. He managed 28 possessions on managed minutes (he wasn’t on much in the last half). 5 clearances too.
[1.5]   Patrick Cripps:      For 3 quarters Crippa was totally brilliant, but he also didn’t do much in the last quarter. His kicking for goal – well, 2 goals, but it should have been three. 5 clearances and 4 tackles. Yes, the Captain was good!
[1.5]   Nick Haynes:      Nick didn’t have an obvious matchup in defence, so he played on the wing and did a fantastic job. He generated a lot of forward momentum, he had 23 possessions and 6 clutch marks, and he even scored. One of best games for us.
[1.5]   Blake Acres:      This was Acres’ best game for the year by some margin. The way he broke up Port forward moves was brilliant. He was good in the air and didn’t waste his possessions. A really impressive game.
[1.5]   George Hewett:   The lazy 35 possessions showed how good our centre work was most of the day. 11 clearances! Some teams don’t get that many!
[1]   Lachie Cowan:   Our best smaller defender, Lachie took important marks and kept his opponents under control. 20 possessions and 10 marks!
[1]   Zac Williams:      Zac did most of his best work away from goal, with his attack on the ball and the man, his intensity and his clean disposal. 20 possessions and 3 clearances.
[0.5]   Tom de Koning:   Tom was brilliant in the first half, but was beaten in the ruck after half time. Still Tom’s taps were good, his marking was good, his desire and attack on the ball was good, and his 5 clearances were crucial.
[0.5]   Lewis Young:      Probably Lewis Young best defensive performance for us. he had Georgiades for most of the time and kept him under control, while getting the ball himself. 7 great marks and no brain fades.
[0.5]   Ollie Hollands:      Ollie deserves a lot more than 0.5, but … His run and drive was excellent. 20 possessions and a part in some of our better periods of play.
[0.5]   Francis Evans:   After last week, you could be forgiven for thinking he couldn’t climb the mountain again, but you’d be wrong. Frankie did some nice things and showed Port that they made a mistake getting rid of him.
[0.5]   Jacob Weitering:   Not 100% by any means, and clearly not moving as well as he could, but Jacob still made a significant contribution. His intercept marking and spoils were excellent. He did let Whitlock get off the hook a couple of time, but his interceptions were crucial.
[0.5]   Matt Carroll:      Matt Carroll stood up again today, especially as the team was flagging. His drive, his marking and his kicking were very positive. Most of his stats came after half time.

Honourable Mentions:
Billy Wilson:      His best game to date. Billy did some nice things, made better decisions and really took his man on and won. Showed some good signs for next year.
Hudson O’Keefe:   Skull rucked quite well today, and his contested marks were excellent. He will produce more in time.
Corey Durdin:      6 possessions in the last quarter was good, especially the way he put his body on the line.
Flynn Young:      Probably his best game so far, Young kicked a couple of special goals and was more involved in general play.
Cooper Lord:      Subbed out in the 3rd quarter, but he was crucial in a number of our forward thrusts. We’ve picked up a good one here!
Jesse Motlop:      Not enough possessions, but some of the things he did today make you understand why we recruited him. Now, if we can get him to fumble less …
Ashton Moir:      Not enough yet, but he did some very nice things. His goal was brilliant, as was his mark. His willingness to put his body in was also good.
