AFLW 2025 Rd 2: Carlton vs Hawthorn at Frankston

Next Saturday night at 19:05 at Frankston.
We haven't done well against Hawthorn yet, so I'd like to see us provide a contest.

It's on TV for those not going.

We're on TV!

Our line-up:
B:   3 Darcy Vescio   36 Ciara Fitzgerald
HB:   49 Madeline Hendrie   7 Poppy Scholz   21 Harriet Cordner
C:   11 Yasmin Duursma   25 Keeley Sherar   17 Dayna Finn
HF:   19 Erone Fitzpatrick   22 Mia Austin   20 Lily Goss
F:   42 Tara Bohanna   18 Madeleine Guerin
R:   12 Jessica Good   10 Mimi Hill   5 Abbie McKay
Int:   1 Amelia Velardo   4 Keeley Skepper   55 Sophie McKay   23 Lila Keck   16 Breann Harrington
Em:   15 Meg Robertson   33 Lou-Lou Field   13 Aisling Reidy

The only change is Velardo in, Robertson out.
I wouldn't mind seeing Aisling Reidy have a go.

We have a poor record against this lot, so I'd really like to see us give them a black eye!

We lost by 8 points. :( Still, it is our best effort against this mob for a while and shows we are competitive.

Carlton: 2 - 12 - 24
Hawthorn: 3 - 12 - 30

A huge turnaround from 12 months ago.

Last year we were monstered and looked a class below.
This year we certainly matched it with them and had it not been for poor kicking, could've dominated.
Yes, they had poor kicking too, but we held them goal less for about an hour!

Irish girls doing well, unlike the mens comp.

What I saw was a really well drilled hawks team who withstood a heap of pressure.
They seemed more in control much like we were more in control over collingwood the week before.
Last year we saw occasional glimpses of cohesion, this year we are seeing cohesion regularly, there’s excitement to be had with this team.
Let’s go BIG !

An ounce of luck and we could have snatched a win.

A much improved effort but we've still got a way to go ...

Good to see the Coach of the winning team complaining about the umpiring interpretation of holding the ball, especially as they probably got the rub of the green with it.  Hawthorn is a good side and once we stabilised after the start we probably had the best of it. I thought we beat them up physically and a lot of their players looked very sore by the end. A couple of silly errors cost us in the end.
I think Channel 7's camera work was pathetic. I want to watch the footy not the crowd. I found important parts of the match was missed and I lost the flow of the game at times.
