I've got no issue with you having a different point of view.

Where do you think Vescio will place in the B+F this year?

Depends on what positions they play and what voting system is used.  If it's similar to the men, probably in the top ten or twelve.

Doesn't that mean you agree with me? Meaning Darcy is an average player? Literally half the team finishing above Darcy.

That is not 'average' in a derogative term, but average as in middle of the pack.

B&F rarely come from D50 unless they are exceptional, and when the team is winning it's even less likely as the balance of play should be at the other end.

So in general it's not really a valid commentary on player effectiveness, influence or capability. Even exceptional won't be a better than average chance, a great real world example is Harry Taylor. Most would have him as one of Geelong's most important players, probably the most consistent, 2 x AA, 1 x JS Medalist, flags a plenty. Yet no B&F, not even close, because during his career they won a lot, not least in part due to having Harry Taylor in D50!

....and the excuses begin

FYI 2024 B+F...

1. Patrick Cripps (204 votes)
2. Nic Newman (148 votes)
3. Sam Walsh (147 votes)
4. Jacob Weitering (144 votes)

Yep, hard on defenders.

Yes you are right, a defender did not win, do you have any more examples to support my case?

So Vescio will finish 2nd then?

Vescio won it in 2021.

Vescio has not placed in the top 5 since.
I say top 5, because they don't give you full top 10 results for some reason. They gave a top 6 one year, but she wasn't in that either.

In 2022 (x2), 2023, 2024 there have been the following players place in the top 5 (or 6)....
Prespakis
Kez Harrington
Hill
Bree Moody/Harrington
Paige Trudgeon
Gab Pound
Abbie McKay
Laloifi
McEvoy
Sherar
Good
Guerin

There has also been a MVP awarded to...
Cordner
A. McKay
Kez
Laloifi

Coaches award...
Sherar
Cordner
Daisy Walker
McEvoy

All up between top 5 B+F, MVP and coaches award we have had 14 players over the past 4 years.....none of which is Darcy Vescio.

Seems the coaches and B+F voters agree with me.

Your maths is a little shaky there Kruddler.  We have already used 25 players in our first four games and will probably use at least 30 by the end of the season. If Darcy finishes in the top ten or twelve, around two thirds of the team will have finished beneath her.

The fact of the matter is that Darcy Vescio is still a very good footballer, her skills are at least equal to or better than her teammates, her footy nous, leadership and effort are way beyond most of her teammates, and her presence on the field is a critical factor.

Such an important player ...

I doubt if there's anyone else in our squad who is so comfortable and competent kicking on their right and left.

Last time i'll try this...
Nobody is doubting Vescio, talent, brain, skill or other.
I am simply saying those around her have increased dramatically from the time Vescio started.
So much so that now there are equals (and better) than Vescio in the comp and in the side.

For those who like numbers....
Vescio (and a handful of others) were a 4 out of 5 when the comp started. Some in the same team may have rated a 1-2 out of 5.

Now we have plenty of 4/5's (include Darcy) in the side but i doubt there is any 1 out of 5's.....MAYBE a 2/5....mostly 3's and 4's.
This is shown in recent B+F's, AA's and other awards.

Doesn't mean Darcy has got any worse or is no good or any other spin you want to put on it. Just everyone else has improved.

Darcy is no longer an elite player, what is elite has changed.
