An impressive winner, Matt Rowell.
Glad to see Daicos beaten again.

How did George Hewett only get 10 votes?
Jack Silvagni didn't get one.

Equally surprised. Obviously needs to grow his hair really long and/or dye it a bright colour.
Only our ruthless best, from Board to bootstudders will get us no. 17

Or play for a side that wins games.
It's a meaningless award.

I once thought that Rowell was a tad overrated … until I watched him closely.  He is a gun and a very worthy winner.

George missed out on votes because we lost more games than we won. Same with Harry.

Jack’s surname mustn’t carry much weight with the umpires.

Interestingly though, Cripps still polled very well in what was an average season for him. 19 is a pretty fair number.

Rowell is one of us.  Shaped by carlton.  Natural cripps successor.  Bring him over
Never gonna happen now.
Winner and runner-up were Carlton fans. Strange a Daicos grew up a Carlton fan but was best friends with Tom Silvagni, so he supported Carlton too.

Wouldn't that boost the midfield...haha.

Rowell works extremely hard in a few areas. He had the second most tackles in the league this year

7 odd game with more than 10 tackles, max one game was a crazy 17

Nice bloke is Matt Rowell but the voting was mystifying as it was when Greg Williams was dudded and had 40 plus possessions  when Wanganeen won the medal.
Nas should have got three votes for his 34 possession 4 goal match winning game in Rnd20 I think it was and how Rowell got three votes in games where he got less than 20 possessions was hard to fathom.
I didnt care who won but the voting system has to change as the umpires get it way wrong too often imo.

But did you watch those games?

I saw someone post on fb earlier that he commentated the game of where nas got 2 and Viney got 3 - sure NAS won it for them in the final few mins but the commentator said Saints were putrid for 3/4’s and Viney was very very good for Melbourne.

Personally didn’t watch any of those games in full so nfi personally but you can have 40
Possessions and them
Be not as impactful as 20
Possessions that are.

And to add to that if the commentators were doing the Brownlow voting it would be Daicos 3 for every game! I have listened to them commentate him and they treat everything he does as the best thing ever even when he literally is not even in the play! Don’t know why they in particular BT and Hamish have such hard ons for him but Rowell is an absolutely worthy winner as was Crippa.

Yeah I wasnt sure either, so I went back and had a look.

Nasiah - AF 147, GB 4.1, 34D, 25K, 9 HB, 5 M, 4 T.  749 Metres gained.  6 Clearances 6 inside 50's.
J.Viney - AF 134, GB 1.1, 23D, 12K, 11HB, 1 M 16 T.  303 Metres gained, 8 Clearanes, 4 inside 50's.

Tackling aside, Nas was way better on stats, but the real tell was how gobsmacked everyone who was involved in the game were.  He was a match winner on the day.  Thing is, if you value the tackle stat, 16 is remarkable, and seeing how Cripps and Rowell are racking up brownlows, you can go back to Matt Priddis, where the inside mids are being rewarded for putting their head over it time and again.

When push comes to shove 4.1 in a 1 goal game...  Not sure what they were thinking.

Watched the Nas game , my daughters inlaws are Halo members so I get roped into going to see a few Stkilda games.
Didnt watch any GC games so cant comment directly only can go by the stats and what others have said.
I thought Gawn was better than Viney, I remember the latter had a lot of tackles but I didnt think his possessions did much damage. To me Nas was BOG, the only thing I will say is that players like Nas and Nick Daicos are more watchable than players like Viney and Rowell and you can get your judgement skewed by their flair and style which is more vote catching but not necessarily a true indication of what overall effect they had on the game.
