I didnt care who won but the voting system has to change as the umpires get it way wrong too often imo.
But did you watch those games?

I saw someone post on fb earlier that he commentated the game of where nas got 2 and Viney got 3 - sure NAS won it for them in the final few mins but the commentator said Saints were putrid for 3/4’s and Viney was very very good for Melbourne.

Personally didn’t watch any of those games in full so nfi personally but you can have 40

NAS did get 34 possessions and was certainly the most influential when it came to winning the game. Viney actually was the one who gave away the 6-6-6 free that lost them the game. The reaction of Max Gawn when NAS only got 2 votes was gold.

Agree though that, theoretically, a Rowell 20 possession game could be more influential than another's 40 possession game. I didn't take notice of GC games as much to judge if that was the case, but I see your point. He could have had, for example, 10 tackles as well that created scoring chances or prevented the other side scoring. That would count as well.

Naas also had nine scoring involvements and as you say Viney cost them the game, also Viney had McRae company for a lot of the game and I thought McRae was a good player for Stkilda so I didnt think it was a complete BOG performance from Viney at all.
But back to the point of my previous posts, I feel the umpires see the game differently and id like more balance with some outside adjudicators also casting votes for some balance.

Congratulations to Matt Rowell - fine season.

As the Brownlow is subjective, the 'anomalies' will always be there.

There are 32 umpires per round.  Voting is going to inconsistent.  It doesn't matter if there are other 'independents' that vote, there will still be at least 8 other ones.

It is hard enough in the U13's doing 5-4-3-2-1 after a game!  I think we all look at the votes on this site after a game and see a few 'strange' ones.

Imagine if in the olympics after a gymnast's performace, all judges were swapped out for the next athlete and so on.

Never going to get a perfect system for this.  Like many things!

Often Player of the Match in Cricket is often more about the how a player influences the result rather than the best player. A bowler may get 0/150 in the first innings but have a quick burst of 4 or 5 wickets in a spell running through top the top order, bringing about a collapse and victory for his team.

The media are cutting up because the umpires do not follow the AFL Media sophistry regarding favourite players and clubs.

Furthermore, when the media carries on about 17 possession games getting three votes, it just shows you they haven't really watched the game and are commenting off the stats.

I admit I had to go back and watch fragments of a couple of those low possession games, Rowell probably had 12 or 15 decisive and influential possessions when it mattered. As many if not more decisive possessions than most players like Daisocs or Bont get in a 35 possession game.

Actually, the AFL media hypocrisy is shown in it's support for Daicos, because most of the Daicos possessions are vacuous, he is genuinely a highlight reel type player admittedly with very good highlights and excellent finishing. But he's not the one getting the job done as much as fans like to think, he is somewhat reminiscent of Ablett Jnr's pre-Gold Coast give and get game plan which many commented was over-rated.

I said previously that I used to think that Rowell was overrated and was given too much credit for meaningless tackles.  However, when I actually watched him closely I realised that his tackles often change the course of a game, and he does it consistently.

I think it was against Collingwood where several crunching Rowell tackles enabled the Suns to hang on for the win.

By the way, Rowell played basketball for Koonung Comets.  I was president of that club for many years ... but way before Matt joined  :)

Dislike Daicos!  I mean how influential has The Bont been over his journey yet has come runner up a few times - don’t hear the bullcrap in the media about that like we do about Daicos. Give it a rest ffs.

I agree wholeheartedly. Daicos may be Collingwood's best player, but he isn't God. Bontempelli deserves one more than Daicos does.

I’m not sure that Daicos is Collingwood’s best player.  He might get a lot of the ball, and demand it even more, but, if there was one player we could take from Collingwood, I’d go for Moore.

Nick Daicos is a gun player, sure he is easy to hate but he would make us a finals team and win a few brownlows doing it.
