AFLW 2025 Round 8 Carlton vs Geelong at Kardinia Park

We play Geelong at Kardinia Park on Sunday arvo at 1505.

I might make the trip into the big smoke to watch this one.  Any other CSCers intending to go?

This game is on Sunday at 15:05 at Geelong.
Abbie McKay is probably back.

I've kept pretty quiet over the past month, but i'd like to reiterate my previous statement re Vescio and the overall standard of the womens game.
Darcy has been relegated to a 2nd tier (at best) player.

Half a game in this one. Got 1 touche and 1 tackle.
People chastised Charlie about his lack of tackling, but Vescio has concrete boots when the opposition has the ball. I hope Darcy is carrying an injury because i'm not sure on current form there will be a contract for Darcy next year.

Gab Pound playing her first game in forever shows the hunger and skill we expect.
Brooke Vickers was out of the game for almost 2 years is showing more touch than Vescio.

Sophie McKay is doing what Vescio used to do, in her first season.
Bohanna is on the wrong side of 30 but looks 10 years younger by comparison to Darcy.

Overall, the team is playing very well across the board, have a lot of skill between them and are obviously winning....take Vescio out of the side and i don't think any of that changes. That is a big tick for the club and a huge improvement over previous years.


Overall, we've dominated the game thus far, but hitting the post at least 3 times (including in the goal square) is keeping the cats in the game.

Slightly frustrated watching that third quarter! We seemed to make it very hard for ourselves and ran ourselves ragged for not enough result whereas they utilised it well when forward.

Hopefully they can run out the game -

Long time to wait for their 2nd possession, but it was an important one.
Steadier for Vescio might be enough.

Good win despite poor kicking for goal, Geel came at them hard in the 3rd, Darcy V steadied the ship and the mids got going again.

Yeah, we certainly sprayed a few. :(
On the other hand, we had some really good signs.
Darcy had her quietest game for the year, but did something when it mattered. Keeley Skepper, Meg Robertson, Maddie Hendrie and Tara Bohanna didn't have big possessions either.
On the other hand:
Abbie McKay: 31 possessions, 3 tackles and 7 clearances.
Mimi Hill: 30 possessions, 3 clearances and a goal.
Dayna Finn: 26 possessions.
Erone Fitzpatrick: 24 possessions and 2 goals
Amelia Velardo: 19 possessions.
That's 5 of the top 6 possession getters.

Geelong depend on their midfield: we shut it down totally.

Sophie McKay: 5 points
This is one area where we need to improve. Our kicking for goal has already lost us one game this year.
