VFL Rd 2 2026 Carlton vs Williamstown

We start our season against a first round winner, in Williamstown, who have a number of ex-Blues in their line-up.
According to the CFC website, we haven't beaten Williamstown yet in our present iteration of the 2nds, so I hope we can make history.

We should have most of our senior list players available, which will be interesting.

Looks like Cerra and Newman will play, as they have been ruled out of senior selection.
Cerra may well be on managed minutes, but Newman probably won't be.

If current weather is anything to go by, it will be some nice, cold, hamstring pinging weather.

Our line-up is available:

B: 41 Duffy   26 Haynes  42 Saad
HB: 28 Charleson   37 Boyd   34 Monahan
C: 24 Newman   15 Wilson   13 Acres
HF: 8 Fogarty   21 L Camporeale   30 Ison
F   45 F Young   43 Moir   47 Derkson
{b}R:[/b]  25 Reidy   16 B Camporeale   46 Cottrell
Int:  58 Sammartino  77 Cookson   67 Evans   61 Harvey   50 Tucker

Em:  55 Phillips  59 Vickery  70 Hogg  56 Riley  51 Magor  72 Cotter  75 Farrar  74 Prout

Lots of AFL listed guys. At least one won't play: will be emergency for the seniors. I think Phillips will probably play.

Starting 18 of senior listed blokes in the VFL. When was the last time that happened?

Very ordinary 1st quarter. Willy up 28 to 9.

Lacklustre first qtr from us, though we did start to get into the game later in the qtr.

Great to see so many senior listed blokes in the side.

Let's see what we can do in the 2nd.
Only our ruthless best, from Board to bootstudders will get us no. 17

9 points down. 49 - 40.  New VFL player Cookson very lively. None of the AFL players really staking a claim at this point. Newman probably our best so far along with Haynes. Those 2 are just very smart players.

Yep. Agree. I thought we saw some good cameos from Cotters and Flynn Young as well.

It has been an embarrassing day for Carlton, but it certainly didn't start the way it should have.
Carlton 12 - 7 - 79
Williamstown 12 - 12 - 84

[1] We haven't beaten Williamstown yet in this iteration of our 2nds. That is simply unacceptable! Granted that our VFL program has been turned on its head, with Power replaced by Truslove (and most of the other coaches as well), but with so many AFL LISTED PLAYERS, we should not be losing to VFL clubs!

[2] To start so poorly is unprofessional, especially as we don't run out games.

[3] To have Mirkov beat Reidy in the ruck is awful. For all his limitations, Mirkov gave his mids first look. That bodes terribly for Reidy. And it bodes terribly for Carlton as a team, as we badly needed Reidy to step up.
The positive was Reidy's work around the ground: 20 disposals is a positive. But it doesn't give our mids the service they need.

[4] Williamstown had the 3 top possession getters on the ground: FitzGerald, Hall-Kahan & Toner. And yet, did we have anyone run with them?
Our lack of run-with players is terribly obvious in the seniors, but it seems that there is nobody doing the job in the VFL.

[5] Nick Haynes: 13 marks. Nobody else got close to that. If he has done his hamstring, then we've lost something.

[6] Nic Newman: I was hoping that we wouldn't need Nic much any longer, but he does something few of our defenders do, he wins one on one possessions. His lack of pace might be an issue, but there is still a place for him in the seniors.

[7] Other than Flynn Young, who kicks our goals?

How did all the other senior listed players go? Moir, the Campos? The Irish guys?
