Back to the Moon

I must admit more than a little satisfaction to see Artemis II headed to the Moon.
It has been 50 years since humanity retreated from space, and I'm glad that has been reversed.
It may not be one small step for man, but it is a start.

Was reading about some of the mars rover work this morning, absolutely inspiring some of NASA's work.

There looks to be a bit of a glitch in the termination system that blows the rocket up if it fails rather than letting it fall to Earth and hit someone on the head.
I suspect the falling debris would be just as dangerous but...it may delay the launch.

Wear your tinfoil hat or Pith helmet to protect against cosmic rays and space debris....

I was feeling so good for just a few minutes, as humanity headed back into space.
Then that idiot Trump opened his mouth again. :( :( The share market dropped like a rock and everything was back to 'normal'.

Does anyone else see a manned trip to orbit the moon as indulgent?  What are we hoping to achieve out of it?

I'm not sure what the project was greenlit off the back of, but the amount of things we've learned in the past are still finding new ways of benefitting us today.

Science will find 100's if not 1000's of benefits that will help in unimaginable ways.

Most of the time things like this happen it is to confirm previous suspicions or to help understand specific circumstances.

Whether or not is indulgent probably depends on your relationship to science.
Conversely, your relationship to the army and war (or lack of) may lead you to the conclusion that a nations defence is indulgent.

I agree. Priorities are out of whack. There are so many things that need fixing on this planet, that need to be attended to before this.
