Couldn've brought in Zac Williams for Byrne. But, hey, Williams is an emergency and Byrne stayed in. Have 6 blokes under 12 games in.

Keep trying.

Why drop Derkson though? What did he do wrong?
Why not Haynes?

Weitering>>Derksren, Haynes plays a different role.

I don't mind holding the kids back a little in a game like this.
So while BenC and Charleson should get an opportunity soon, it's probably not a game for first gamers with number of other inexperienced guys playing.
This will be difficult.
We have matched up well in the past but they're going as well as anyone.

Agree Lods, we’ve got enough kids playing at the moment all of whom have earnt the right to play, we shouldn’t be compromising our chances to win with special look at in be selections.

I must watch different games Kurds, in both our Adelaide Oval games I thought Haynes played well.  Yes can have some rough patches early, in games, but as progressed I thought Haynes became our saving sweeper down back. Yes Derksen promising performance last week. Sometimes feel he is a risk with his lay it off kicks out to the flank, as not always pin point. Could come undone against a team like Geelong.

Sorry mate, you jumped into the middle of an ongoing discussion and missed the tone/history of it all.
I actually agree with you.

My point was that all the sack voss crew are pumping up frasers tyres, which is fine, but theor logic for it is wrong.

One of the 'big positives' attributed to fraser was that he is playing the kids more.
This is false.
This was my sarcastic comment highlighting as much.

Alot of the kids are in the side already. Not many more left to bring in. More about leaving them in, which he did. As I said. Could've picked Williams but we left the like of Byrne in. Did well to resist it given the opposition this week.

Our line-up:

B:   15 Billy Wilson   23 Jacob Weitering   26 Nick Haynes
HB:   14 Oliver Florent   35 Harry Dean   2 Lachlan Cowan
C:   5 Adam Cerra   18 Sam Walsh   13 Blake Acres
HF:   12 Ben Ainsworth   11 Mitch McGovern   19 Will Hayward
F:   39 Talor Byrne   10 Harry McKay   45 Flynn Young
R:   27 Marc Pittonet   7 Jagga Smith   9 Patrick Cripps
Int:   24 Nic Newman   29 George Hewett   17 Brodie Kemp   44 Francis Evans   30 Jack Ison
Em:   47 Wade Derksen   6 Zac Williams   40 Hudson O'Keeffe

[1] I guess it was obvious that Acres was coming in for Carroll. At least we know he is (finally) in some reasonable form.
Guys like Moir didn't do enough last week to deserve a game. Probably the only one who did was Ben Camporeale, who is just waiting for a spot.

[2] Weitering for Derksen was probably also obvious. I just hope Weitering is fit, as he has not been at his best this year.

[3] Backing in the one-ruck idea. In recent years we have slaughtered Geelong in the ruck, as they were de Koning's bunnies. Not sure it works so well with Pitto as the man.
Geelong played 3 guys in the ruck last week to wear Grundy down, 3 guys who can leap. Not sure Pitto can handle that.

Acres had been getting plenty of the ball in the 2's recently other than last week when they held him over, so I guess that was forward planning for this game. Agree Ben C could possibly get a run against a lesser  team rather than be subjected to the massacre which will ensue tomorrow night.
If Weiters comes in I guess it has to be at Derksen's expense although he needs to be putting in a better effort than he has been of late.

I'd love to jag another win, I expect nothing less than to give a good, 4 qtr account of ourselves against one of the benchmark sides of the comp. We've done well against them in the past, doesnt mean much to tonights result though.

Others won't like it but I don't mind dropping this match and looking at the big picture ie draft time. I'd have played a couple more kids...

Don’t know that we need to drop a few in order to lose this match, Cats are going as good as any team at the moment and we’ll need to get everything right in order to win this one.

Zac Williams is a bit stiff.  He was "managed" for the Port game and can only get an emergency slot this week.

I know that Zac is a bit of a whipping boy but he has played consistent footy this season as a defender, forward and midfielder.  He would give us much more than Byrner and Flynn Young combined.

Weitering for Derksen is a no brainer, although the latter is stiff to miss out.  Weiters has been subjected to a media pile on but his form has been pretty good, particularly when you consider the undermanned, inexperienced defence he was trying to lead, and our poor team defence up the ground.  Naughton kicked three goals against him; one when Weiters was blocked and couldn't get to the contest, and two from very soft blocking free kicks.

It's good to see Acres back, although I will be anticipating at least one shanked kick out on the full.

It's going to be a tough assignment but we always seem to do pretty well against the Cats and we've got to be in with a chance.
