VFL 2026 Rd 16: Carlton vs Box Hill at Box Hill

A Sunday game in a bog: Box Hill's ground often turns into a bog after reasonable rain, and there is supposed to be quite a bit on Saturday night.
Our game is at 14:05 on Sunday.

No idea as to who will play yet, but Acres was not named as Emergency, so he probably will play. The other Emergencies should also play.
Box Hill are 4th at the moment, while we are 13th, having won our first game for ages, so we won't be close to being favourites.

Riley promoted to the seniors, as Pitto is out injured. :(
HOK is actually Emergency for the seniors!

Reidy will probably play, as he would be named 'if he got through training'. Since Dean did, I was hoping Reidy would do the same.

23rd Player: T. Gresham (78)
EMG: O. Badr (53), W. Cookson (77), R. Corrigan (63), J. O'Sullivan (54), C. Cotter (72), H. Wilson (72)

IN: B. Acres, A. Davey, T. Logan, L. Reidy, J. Rule
OUT: F. Riley (AFL), M. Duffy (managed), L. Farrar (concussion), D. Tucker (injured), W. Cookson (omitted)
NEW: Alwyn Davey Jnr, 22, 181cm, Essendon AFL/Old Xaverians

[1] I guess Alwyn Davey had to play at some point. I hope I'm wrong about him, but ...

[2] We'll miss Farrar and Tucker, both of whom were really strong last week.

[3] 14 AFL-listed Blues named. Acres will be a huge in. I don't quite see why he is out.

[4] Good to see Reidy back. He's been good in the VFL. Not sure he has what it take for the seniors, but that is another tale. I hope he dominates on Sunday.

[5] I really hope the Moir can show something in the poor conditions. He has so much talent; he just needs to focus it properly. He got a fair bit of ball last week, but he needs to dominate a game. God knows he has the ability.

[6] Even though Duffy is out, managed, we will miss him. He was much better last week. I guess the MC thinks that with the rain, the Hawthorn key forwards won't be as effective. They may well be right. But our lack of key position players couldn't be more obvious.

Interesting to see how our youngsters fare today. After last night, there will be opportunities.

Halfway through the first and we're 8 points in front.

Camera angle is a shocker as we're watching from ground level. ::)

29 in front close to quarter time.

Apparently you only get a $150 dollar fine for participating in a melee at VFL level...well worth it. :D

In the words of "Supertramp"..."It's raining Again" and a strong wind.
It seems to be against us at the moment but pushing shots at goal away to the left of the end we're kicking to.
30 in front halfway through the second.

Just noticed that Cooper Lord isn't playing.
I don't know whether the reason for that was mentioned before the game but given the injury to Hewett I would have thought he would be the logical replacement next week.

Young gets his second.

Reidy has lost the plot a bit after being caught with the ball and has given away a couple of silly frees.

Half Time
Carlton 9-6-60 to Box Hill 5-1-31
There seems to be some issue with the scores and it may be a one point adjustment.

Young and O'Keefe 2 goal each

Fogarty has had the ball 22 times.
Acres 14
Ben C 13

Reidy gave away a couple of dumb free kicks but he is at least more competitive in the centre ruck contests than he was earlier in the year - only seems to have one tactic though - he tries to jump early (not very high) into his opponent.  It was working well in the first term but he doesn't seem to have any other tactics.  O'Keeffe seems more competitive of the pair and is offering something up forward as well.

Moir, playing forward, seems to have given away more free kicks than he has obtained possessions - might be an exaggeration but he doesn't seem very useful as a forward.

Acres might have played himself back into the senior team after the poor showing from Hollands last night.

Fogarty playing well and winning quite a few clearances.
