I wouldn't be dropping Kemp unless you have someone banging the door down in the VFL.

He is doing a lot right and has been pretty good.   Just needs to finish his work.    Could watch a bit of Gunstan's work.    Doesn't waste it and can draw an odd free kick.

Score Assists:   1.118 (4th)
Score Impact:   13.588 (1st)
Goals:   24 (2nd)
Marks:   5:118 (Behind McKay only as a forward)
MarksInside50:  2.176 (1st)

And consider he has only been a forward for a short period of time.

All our forwards need to sharpen up their goal kicking - Byrne and Ison have sprayed important kicks and Harry's goal kicking issues are an established fact.

And missing a relatively easy kick for goal can sap team confidence, particularly when players have worked hard to create the opportunity.

I prefer specialist KP forwards rather than manufactured ones...we need to recruit a young KP who is a good kick at U18 level and doesn't need remedial work.
Brendon Fevola comes to mind...we don't have that player like a Fevola, Gunston, Elliott, Robbie Gray who can kick that set shot match winner in the final seconds under pressure.

Agreed, a Gunston would be gold. Not Norman though.

Kemp was named full forward in the 2019 Under 18 All Australian team.  You could say that we're finally playing him in his best position.

I know he was named at FF in that team but his rookie profile on AFL.com has him as a utility playing as a defender who was destined to play as a midfielder.
Thats not my idea of a specialist FF who has spent their career playing forward only....

Reckon Saturday was an example. Ison missed a shot to put us within 14pts late in the 3rd qtr, they then got a goal, margin was 25pts, heads dropped and they kicked another 2 very quickly putting the game out of our reach in the conditions. We seemed to just go through the motions after that and got killed from there. Bit of the old Carlton turning up their toes and giving up.

Does anyone know why Cooper Lord didn't play VFL on the weekend?
He wasn't on the injury list pre-game.
Was he injured just before the game.
Were the concerns over Hewett's back a reason to hold him back, seems a bit extreme....could have played half  game if not injured.

Some information here :

"Team Tips: There’s arguably more selection pressure at Ikon Park this week than any other since Josh Fraser took the helm in early May after the club’s unbeaten run under the caretaker coach was snapped by Hawthorn. George Hewett is under an injury cloud with a back spasm, with the midfielder listed as a test on Tuesday. The Blues have finally revealed a timeline for Jacob Weitering’s return from a calf injury, with the star key defender aiming to be available in Round 22 or 23, set to spend another three to four weeks on the sidelines. Cooper Lord, who’d been in stellar VFL form, was held out of the twos over the weekend due to the Hewett injury and looms as a reinforcement if the on-baller doesn’t get up. Elsewhere, Blake Acres responded to his axing with 28 disposals in the VFL win over Hawthorn to also potentially force his way back in, while Lachie Fogarty (32 disposals, 19 contested) also played well at the lower level. Ruckman Flynn Riley impressed on debut in place of Marc Pittonet, who was a late out for the Hawks loss with a hamstring strain and will also miss this weekend."

What's the odds Frampton gets off? (Is it a Slam Dunk?)

I was actually quite surprised before last weekend's game, given the heavy weather forecast, that Cooper didn't get a run as I thought he was OK in the VFL. If nothing else, he's more than capable in the collision stakes.

I know this is not exactly what you were talking about and the following data doesn't take into account complete misses (look at you Harry) but point remains, i think Kemp is being a bit harshly judged.

How many shots per game is that?

I think it's reasonable to assume Kemp has spent about 1/2 of his total possible game time forward of centre, maybe gets to 2 shots per game when in range. But if we apply that rule to all those forwards, and start counting the minutes players like McKay or Gunston were up the field, than the differential will be even worse.

Except for Fev, pretty much all of them spend game time up the field out of goal range.

He had a bad one on the weekend...that's fresh in our minds
And the weather was probably a major factor.
He averages around 6 marks a game.
He only had one on the weekend.
