A fantastic, gutsy effort against very good opposition. Well done to all players and coaches.

IMO (and this is a separate issue), the AFL's desire for supersonic footy is making the game unwatchable. The skills errors in this game were appalling.

I agree, on average it's ordinary, when it's done well it's electric.

We sort of judge the style based on outcome, convert a few of those late behinds it would have swayed fan opinion, because we failed to finish a lot of good work it loses some gloss, but I feel we were quite dominant all game, even when we were four goals down I said as much to @Thryleon‍ in the coaches thread.

Some of the gloss comes off because of umpiring variability, but it must be very difficult to umpire the chaos. We've talked about in danger, was any paid tonight, and how many times did players run with the footy get caught and not penalised, it's inconsistent at best and that inconsistency can determine the outcome.

Pitto terrific again, by the end of the game he had Gawn covered and was doing his solo clearance trick. Just needs to clunk a few more marks and he'd be in the votes.

Yes, I certainly don't wish to detract from what is a remarkable achievement by the boys, and the skills were certainly better earlier in the game. But the AFL can't have it both ways, or at least they shouldn't. You cannot be very concerned about concussion, contact injuries etc., yet insist that players run themselves into the ground.

Bad becasue of skills not because we were outplayed, we must always look at the game on it's merit and not focus on the outcome, I thought we had more footy than the Dees despite not finishing.

Just as well Pickett was busy being a show pony - flying for big marks and trying to kick goals whenever he was inside the 50 metre arc - we might have been behind at 3/4 time if he had managed to kick some of the goals

Hollands earned his place today and will be hard to displace next week.

Best game from Cottrell for many a moon - shame he kept narrowly missing the goals.

Young did his job but could still be omitted for Derksen next week - Wonder if Hayward and/or Newman might be available next week.

Newman is basically done for the year.

Derkson and young are playing musical chairs and i dont think either of them deserve to miss out.

Hayward.....not sure how we fit him in, maybe cottrell or lord?

I cant believe we hit the post 5 times tonight! Thankfully it wasnt close because if the goals were a foot wider we'd have won by 7+ goals.

Nothing better than spending the night with 91000 fans going nuts for 2 hours.

Despite it being a dees hkme game, i reckon it was 70-30 carlton fans.....and geez we're a loud bunch.

Keeps our undefeated record in finals played in melbourne for the last 25 years in tact.
Onto next week.

True, but we had already hit the post 3 times by then, and would do it again.

Aggressive kicks to the corridor that weren't working, not necessary and were getting chopped off every time. They changed tact and it worked.

oh, we've done it before. I can recall one game last year when we managed 6 posters, but (thankfully) they don't happen often. Cottrell should have 5 goals, but ...

Really stoked to win - It was an odd game as I felt we had more control after quarter time….

Bring on Geelong 💪🏼
