Very good effort - Erone is an incredible player and Abbey McKay is just so smart, she shows footy smarts every game.

The conditions didn’t help but it was still an entertaining game.  I think that we found it hard to adapt our style of play to the conditions and that created opportunities for Hawthorn … and they seemed to get more than their fair share of luck.

Both defences were on top but ours had to work a lot harder … in part because we struggled to get the pill past the centre.

A good win in the end with lots of even contributions. I thought that Erone, Abbie and Keeley were our best and with Harriet marshalling the defence.  And, speaking of defence, Bucky must be thankful that he’s got Poppy to throw behind the ball.

CARLTON         3.1   3.1   4.4   5.6   (36)
HAWTHORN     0.0   1.1   3.2   3.6   (24)

GOALS
Carlton: Fitzpatrick 2, S.McKay, Finn, Sherar
Hawthorn: Stockwell 2, Ashmore

BEST
Carlton: A.McKay, Fitzpatrick, Whitfort, Sherar, Hill, Scholz
Hawthorn: West, Wales, Richardson, Stockwell, Stone, Fleming

Fairly impressive that we kick 3 goals into the tide in the first quarter.
Second quarter wasn't quite as impressive. Keeping them to 4 points in the last was pretty good.

Jess Good did most of the ruck tonight, which was interesting, but she did it pretty well. Bella's ruck work ... it shows how important a ruck can be.

I was a bit worried about going into the game without Amelia Velardo but Gab Pound handled the conditions very well and was a more than adequate replacement.

I think Gab relishes those conditions. Not sure what was up with Velardo, but to have Gab as an option to come in to the side is a luxury most don't have.

I had to wonder if she had been carrying an injury, I was a bit shocked to see her omitted, but sometimes it's a safer bet to report an omission rather than to let opponents know about an injury.

For me she might be our ultimate bench rotation, she can come and have an impact just about anywhere on the surface.

Defends depth in D50 as well as anybody, and can hit up F50 targets or even take the shot herself as well as anybody, actually I think it's only a lack of opportunity that has seen her not have more impact forward of centre, but she is so good in D50 it's almost to her detriment.
