The Gold Coast had a midfield that that was mature and talented: it is better than North's and probably a few others. We had Binns, who has played less than a quarter of senior football. So, we were always under the pump.
To come back as we did, after such a disastrous start, was excellent and showed character. Giving up the last few goals ... well, that is the way it goes.
Gold Coast had the top 5 possession getters on the ground.

[1] Binns: you have to admire the way he works. A pity his disposal is so ordinary. He would have played a lot more if his disposal was reliable. Still, 26 possessions was a good day's work.

[2] Liam McMahon could be anything if he ever gets some body strength. He missed some of the easiest craps in history last week and still was dangerous. Today he managed 2 goals when our midfield was flogged. But he couldn't out-body me.
I'm not sure who we might pick in the MSD, but we could do worse than McMahon. I just don't see him challenging for a spot against Charlie and H when smaller men out-body him consistently.

[3] Wil White is a guy I like. He is a small forward from down Warnambool way and is pencil thin, but he isn't slow and he has a nice left foot and generally kicks some goals. Definitely one to look for.

[4] Jesse Motlop had 5 disposals for the game. Was he injured?

[5] Sam Durdin and Dom Akuei won't be with us next year. Both got towelled up today. Casboult kicked 3 while Day kicked 4. I'd like us to get a taller defender in the MSD, but will any still be available by the time we have our pick?

[6] Alex Mirkov probably won't be with us either next year. He does get taps, but he gets out-bodied too easily and doesn't have much game awareness. I would give him the benefit of the doubt coming back from heart surgery, but I don't know if we can afford to keep him on if he isn't going to be a senior player.
Mind you, our VFL midfield is very shallow. It doesn't doesn't matter where you tap it if the mids can't get it.

[7] Moir continues to disappoint. He has a few tricks, but he doesn't get where the ball is. It wouldn't hurt us to have him developing the 2's if we had a few more guys who were close to making it and a few less 'development' players. Monahan still doesn't get much of it, but he is more involved. he might even get a bit more of it if our mids got more of it.

[8] Billy Wilson is looking promising. 22 possessions in defence.

How did Lewis Young go crash ?
Surely he had a go at Cas and Day ?

While I’m frustrated that Big Durds has not been available when needed, I’d have thought he still fitted the bill as a back up ?

Again, are you taking the p!55 or what? Tom got smashed by Witts today, if ever you needed two rucks with one parked in the fwd line it was today. I dont know why they didn't park TDK in the goal square for his rest instead of the bench (like the resting ruckman did in the good old days). Sometimes old is new.

No, Tom didn’t get smashed in the ruck.  Witts got more hitouts but few ended up as GC clearances.  Most of Tom’s hitouts resulted in a clearance to us, and Tom’s second and third efforts at stoppages played a big part in that.

Tom had twice as many effective disposals than Witts and took important marks around the ground. Witts was a virtually a non-event around the ground, apart from the goal he was gifted.

From what I could see, Tom went to the bench for running repairs and because he had no gas in his tank.

Voss a bit unsure with some of the umpiring decisions... so is going to seek clarification. :D  :D

Kind of suggested that while he's happy with the Pitto/TDK combination and that they are developing well, TDK's efforts "have given us a lot to think about" which may suggest...."they have a lot to think about" going forward.
I don't think anything is set in stone.

The thing is that the rucks are just one 'variable' in a host of 'variables' that have to be considered, including players, in, players out, opposition, weather conditions even venues.

In the GWS game Tom kicked three and Pittonet gave the midfield an armchair ride.

If we look at the teams we played with two rucks, vs the teams we played with one at the start of the year...how were they all going at the time.

It's impossible to be definite.
We can have a view, but it will probably sort itself out as the season progresses.
Having both is a handy backup position if we do decide to go with just one, because odds are they won't both be available for all games.
