Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 9 2024 Post Game Prognostications Carlton vs Melbourne
From the media coverage you'd think Melbourne dominated this game.  Aside from our gun players, I thought a lot of our lesser lights played important roles.  That's been overlooked - teams win flags, not a handful of guns within chaff.
Arrived home from the game with Junior G2C to be greeted my an angry Mrs G2C. Reckoned the Ch7 commentary was so biased she had to mute it. Ahhhh yes, love it when my effect wears off on family members.
PS Heard Cornes this morning on radio say how he listened to SEN Blues Radio (Maher, Edmond, Kouta and Ange) synced with the TV telecast, absolutely hilarious he reckons.

Backs against the wall, line in the sand, facing 3 defeats in a row (to very good opposition).

We found a way to win. That's to be appreciated, respected and applauded. The Go Dees were always going to come back hard after qtr time, premium sides do that.

We owned the game for about 35 minutes, they owned the game for about 35 minutes... the rest was an even arm wrestle.

The effort from Petracca was a once in a season brilliance from one person.
We negated most of their match winners. Kosi, Fritch, Van Rooyen un seen and smashed by our defenders (that's two big scalps in a row for Cinc). Lever was forced to defend all night as opposed to running around unaccountable picking off I50s.
May had his hands full with Charlie who ran him up the ground a few times. When May returned from one sortee chasing Charlie, he was right in front of us and was completely gassed gasping for air. Charlie was laughing at him like a schoolboy.
I love Gawn, he is a monster who just doesn't stop. But FMD you cant touch him, instant free kick when you do and and nothing in return when he does the same.

Because they are winning (last 4 games) and we've lost 3 of our last 4. I'm not a huge stats fan, my favourite stat is the scoreboard.

This'll be a fascinating contest. Looking forward to it. Something of a 'line in the sand' game for us.
Time to get rolling like we did second half of last year. Fear no one and mow them down one by one.

ZW should be on the trade table along with a pick. Maybe Bulldogs are stupid enough to bite considering they paid 3rd round for Coffield. Injury prone players with a long history are an avoid.

It is no secret the club needs to rebuild its depth because time is approaching fast to rest senior players periodically. But we havent got any 200 game 30 year olds yet.
Not even the WB are that stupid.

Thankyou for sharing Mantis and I am so sorry you and your dear mum had to live that. I can understand how the trauma of that life would linger for ever but rest assured, this place has always been and will always be a safe space for you and anyone else with similar experiences. There are people on here with a wealth of knowledge and expertise who if they can help you themselves, can point you in the direction of people who can (if you have already reached out to professionals). Me? I cant offer you any such professional help but I can always be a person who can and will give you an ear to talk to anytime if you were to need it. No judgements, just someone to vent to if it helps. Send me a PM anytime mate.

I do have a couple who we were great friends with but we (my wife and I) decided to end it for a host of reasons. They were quite wealthy, initially at least, but he subjected her to years of abuse (mental and physical - nothing like you describe above) but there was almost always drugs and alcohol involved by both parties. He claims she abused him also but I dont believe it for a minutes as he was nothing but a compulsive liar. I and others in the circle of friends were oblivious to the fact this was A. going on and B. going on for so long. After finding out, I always wondered why she hung around. I put it down to money. When I ended the friendship, my last words to her were me suggesting she call the police and a lawyer. Don't know if she ever did, don't really care as they were both extremely toxic people.

Not to mention TDK has been a very dangerous addition to the forwardline, and he has been scoring his 1 to 2 goals a game (should have had 3 against the Pies, but missed one that was gettable).

I think we just need to tidy it up a bit, and be a bit smarter and we will be fine.  No need to panic, its not a personell issue, its an execution problem.
Yes. This week, they have gun defenders in  May Lever and McDonald to have a dance with Charlie Harry and Tom.

The good thing is these events are all easy fixes that have cost us games, as long as there is the will to fix them, and the fixes do not require some 3rd party to see it our way!
Yes and so far, the responses have been good. Not perfect but you can see intent. Once we get key players back from injury, the cream will rise to the top, it always does.

For all the vitriol in the fans base directed towards Williams, there were two other complete brain fades that cost us goals during the game.

The first was in the critical moment letting an opponent make an extra number goal side of our defence in our D50, a player that most can't possibly catch given a step or two of head start.

The second was one of our other defenders turning traffic cone earlier in the game, as he became paralysed by the Filth tsunami sweeping around him,.

Both these incidents were moments of inaction that lead to goals free of umpire influence, and far far worse than Williams.
its a footy forum, its not vitriol, its not personal (at least its not meant to be). Its people with opinions pointing out perceived deficiencies or f-ups by players. If you dont like it, start a Kum Ba Yah All Sunshine and Rainbows thread and live in that for the week. For years no one was allowed to point out Plowman's lack of defensive ability because he was a "much loved team mate" (until he wasn't). As Voss said, in a close game its all about the little things, small margins. A few of our blokes would love their time again and I'm sure it will be pointed out to them this week during the review, even Bambi.
