Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 23 2023 Post Game Prognostications Carlton vs Gold Coast
Had it on pretty good authority that Cripps was lucky to play. Copped the knee from Petracca in the ribs/sternum late in the game last week and clearly played very sore.

An ugly win....but we only needed the 4 points and we got them.

Another huge game from Newman and Fisher also really good again.

Not sold on Ed as the sub going forward....he turned it over quite a few times in the last quarter. And Marchbank still looks a bit shaky and a bit slow at times. Maybe it's just because he's missed so much footy but he'll need to be a lot sharper if he's going to hold his spot in the next few weeks.

I think if Petracca's kick had been ruled a goal last week, and we'd lost, the discussion around H would be more about getting him back in because of Charlie getting double teamed in the last few weeks. I'd be playing him this week and next...then he's got a week off before finals, if we get there.

If JSOS plays and is in the 22, it's hard to see who goes out but Pitto might be unlucky....but IMO we need him up against Witts this week.

Plenty of focus, me included, on the blokes we're missing.....Cerra, Walsh, McGovern, Harry, Silvagni and Kennedy. But I reckon the blokes who've come in or returned from injury over the last 8 weeks have been instrumental in the turnaround. Martin has been fantastic and is tough and hard at the ball and man. Motlop and Owies and Fogarty are providing pressure stuff in the forward line, and Fog up around the middle at times. Cunningham wasn't as good last night but he has a bit of class about him. Pittonet coming back in, Cincotta has really stood up and Kemp seems to go from strength to strength every week. That hanger last night showed he's got the confidence now to go for that. And Dow has been great too. Yes, still makes some blunders but last night I thought he was really hard at it and put his body on the line a number of times late in the game and tackled strongly. He looks to be doing everything that's being asked of him and if it means we offer him another year or two, so be it.

And the senior blokes stood tall again...Cripps was huge and Weitering solid as a rock down back.

That's the top 3 teams and St Kilda (who were 5th) that we've beaten in the last 5 or 6 weeks. Hard to believe but we're the form team in the competition. Don't worry about other results (will be nice though), just win the last two, get some players back, and hopefully snare a home final in week 1.

LP....Charlie is unsupported as you say, but last 6-7 weeks, what has really stood out is the spread of goalkicking and the impact guys like Jack Martin, Fogarty and Cunningham have had, as well as Moltop and Owies when he came back in. They've applied the pressure and hit the scoreboard most weeks so hopefully no reason why that can't continue on the weekend.

I'll back Hollands in. There wasn't any issues with us throwing him into it in Round 1 in a huge game against Richmond at the MCG and he handled himself pretty well.

Van Rooyen will be permanent forward with Gawn/Grundy rotating. Marchy might have his work cut out this week....unless he goes to Van Rooyen and Weitering minds the rucks? Hopefully TDK and Pitto can push back at times.

Would love Cerra and Walsh in there this week but reckon we've got enough to go with them.

Hard to see who Boyd might displace this week. Ed might be the logical choice but it's hardly a like for like. Boyd was being used off half back and that's where Fisher slotted in last week. Dow did enough to retain his spot and Hollands was very good in his first game back. The backline seems reasonably settled, albeit missing McGovern.

I think someone posted earlier in the week that Kemp was just cramp last weekend, not a hamstring....haven't seen anything written in terms of an injury?
