Yes I get it, you fear what you don't understand, so you want someone or something to blame.

RedTrump pardoned people who by their actions killed a Whitehouse security guard.

There's no way Capital Punishment ever gets reinstated in this country.  It never serves as a deterrent (in fact, it often attracts the type who want to go out in a blaze of glory).  It only serves to satisfy the need for revenge.

Perhaps most importantly, there are many cases where the person who has been executed has subsequently been proven innocent.

Civilised nations removed it long ago......
This is now the longest premiership drought in the history of the Carlton Football Club - more evidence of climate change?

I agree, but I would adopt the principle of "never say never", because our history of following both good and bad global trends, especially from the US, leaves open the possibility that we may, in the future, get sucked in to such nonsense.

There is generations of evidence and studies that show capital punishment has no real deterrent effect on violent crime. It is purely for show, a faux tough guy, vote buying exercise meant to appease the "law and order", "tough on crime" crowd.

I would suggest that more left wing policies focused on education, social security, meaningful employment, living wages etc are a greater deterrent on crime. People who are comfortable and have their basic needs provided are less likely to be criminals. Organized crime is different, and a topic for a separate discussion.

I think there's a case for finger removal.
screw up once, zip, off goes a little finger.  Do it again, take another one.
Aside from the pain of losing a finger, everyone will know you're a c###.
I wonder if all the ####s running around Melbourne committing crimes after being bailed for the 300th time would do so sans a few digits
DrE is no more... you ok with that harmonica man?

Understand your point but i don't agree.  It should be reserved for the very worst cases such as child murders, mass murders, terrorists etc. Not suggesting at all it would help to prevent those sorts of crimes but thats not the driving factor in my opinion -  These are evil ba5tards that should not be allowed to ever walk the streets among us again. And the alternative to locking them up for good is pointless, providing these evil things, food, shelter, health care. The costs of 30 years in prison is mind boggling and that can be better used for the victims families to try and help in any way for them to lead some sort of a normal life as well as superior education programs to possibly assist lesser criminals to not re offend. Whatever it is anything thing is better then throwing away tax payers money on keeping these things alive.

Martin Bryant Julian Knight sorts should not be afforded any rights and should be taken off this earth.

You have zero credibility now, nada, squat, zip, nought, nil!

It wasn't even a response to one of my posts, @Gointocarlton  slayed you in a drive by!

I suppose it is your constitutional right.

what the actual F*** are you talking about you whackjob leftie twit.

stop thinking everything is about you.

i was agreeing with someone elses post absolutely nothing to do with you at all.

Just because you reply as an authority on every subject and go on and go with verbal diarrhoea not every reply is about you.

Apart from the fact that I find it hilarious that you believe LP is left leaning, there’s no need for personal abuse.  Posts that don’t comply with our rules will be deleted.

If you or others find it offensive that after 1000s of replies I've made I lose my cool to a personal reply that if you took the time to read back you may see why i got heated then nevertheless i apologise.

I was waiting for you to be honest as i knew considering who it was directed at you wouldn't have been able to let it slide.

Anyhow I've been tossing up leaving the site and my frustration in that reply shows the time may have come.

Take a minute.
A moderating request to 'tone it down' is no reason to be leaving a site.

It might be an opportune time for everyone to have another read of the "Code of conduct."
There's been a bit of an 'excess' going back for a few months where people are questioning the mental capacity, motivations and other aspects of folk's posting.
We're individuals with a whole range of ages, life experiences and political and social views.
Communication on a message board is not like communicating in real life where you can immediately respond. Things like tone and expression are also not obvious.

Moderating is also sometimes a bit hit and miss.
At times, when you have the time, you can read in depth.
Other times you just skim over....and may not notice the potential for a 'back and forth' to escalate.
A post that upset someone may have occurred pages before.

I've always been a bit reluctant to censor.
But the time may have come where posts that contain abuse or personal attacks are not just edited but deleted entirely.
It's kind of throwing the baby out with the bathwater, and good points may be lost, but it may be necessary.

We don't want to see anyone leaving.
Especially those that have been with us for long periods
We really can't afford it.
Our numbers are far from what they were at our peak
If you feel the need just take a break.

Personal attacks (some veiled) have been going on in this thread for 298 pages. I personally think threads like this don't belong on a Forum for Aussie Rules Football, invariably peoples political views get in the way of civilised discussion. Just my view.
2021-Pi$$ or get off the pot
2022- Real Deal or more of the same? 0.6%
2023- "Raise the Standard" - M. Voss Another year wasted Bar Set
2024-Back to the drawing boardNo excuses, its time
2025-Carlton can win the 2025 AFL Premiership

If we had civilised discussion all the time it would get boring and humourless, its interesting how peoples analysis on football issues often correlates to their political persuasions and who hasnt read through a post first before scrolling up to see the author but 99% knowing who the author was in advance.
We need a good supply of left wing wokie nutters to balance out the far right wing fascists and a few fence sitters to referee....🤔😉

It's a difficult one.
On the one hand they do generate a lot of discussion and even some interesting points of view that may have you thinking about your own perspectives.
The other thing is that these non-football topics are a bit of our main focus once the draft/trade period is over, through the summer months.
I'v seen what happened on another football site when a Trump thread was shut down. Suddenly there were multiple threads under different names that all gravitated to Trump discussion.

On the other hand, as you point out, folks have pretty fixed social and political views that can often lead to conflict.

That's funny (in bold), because it's true :D
