That's politics 101.
They all do it.

Trump says he's not a politician.
He's a very good one.
He may not be a great person but...
He's going to be in power...that's the measure.
Policy is meaningless unless you can enact it.
@Lods‍ not really, and if you accept the above then you might have to concede you are contributing to the problem.

Politicians had always anchored claims at least partially to some supporting evidence, even if it was a long way from unequivocal, or perhaps even if it was mostly tenuous or even contradictory.

Trump just makes crap up, he makes up crap about his opponents and he makes crap up about his peers. When the media get brave enough to call him out he just makes up more crap.

He could be labelled the crappest President ever, some might not agree, but it isn't necessarily inaccurate!

His supporters claim he has been verballed by the left media, yet he has broadcast "They're eating the dogs.........." live to air!

I'm not saying I agree with it I'm, just pointing out the reality of the situation.
The 'good' is always what the new administration achieved....the 'bad' is always because the other bloke left it in a mess.
Trump has just taken that theory to a new level.
But it's not markedly different to what our guys do in breaking or backtracking on election promises.
They always claim they didn't realise the finances were in such a mess until they got into power.

It has nothing to do with what I think is acceptable.
It has nothing to do with what I think is right.

The reality (again) is that a man who should never have been elected President...was!
Once the Democrats regained power they had one job, and one job only.
They needed to make their term(s) one in which Trump was consigned to the 'dustbin of history' by making such a distinction between them and him that he never was in a position to regain power.
How was that such a hard job, if he was as bad as they claimed.
But they failed...dismally

They couldn't even make a second term.
They played the man rather than the policy.
They pursued him, highlighted him and kept him in the public notice.
Unbelievably they couldn't produce a candidate capable of presenting a genuine alternative to...
A man who tells fibs and is of dubious moral character.
For much of Biden's term Harris was a bit of a non-entity and largely criticised.
She was only able to shine, to some extent in the last few months

Sadly I think they're going to make exactly the same mistake.
It'll all be about how Trump is  bad...not about finding a quality group of potential candidates and policies to make a difference.

Nov 13 (Reuters) - U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday named Elon Musk to a role aimed at creating a more efficient government, handing even more influence to the world's richest man who donated millions of dollars to helping Trump get elected.
Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy will co-lead a newly created Department of Government Efficiency, an entity Trump indicated will operate outside the confines of government.

I'm going to go out on a limb.  Trumps presidency will be fine, he won't do much, he won't ruin much, some things will be better, some things won't be.

Largely it will be ok.

I think you might be right.

But I think the perception of that will be very much determined by folk's political position.
For the more liberal thinking it will be an absolute disaster....and "He went too far."
For the conservative folk , and extreme MAGA, it will be disappointing because he didn't go far enough.

Rhetoric inspires extremists, Trump blames Democrats for the random shooters, but they were Republicans, that just makes him more dangerous in the eyes of the more extreme actors in society.

He doesn't have to do anything for the world to turn bad under his watch, that doesn't mean he hasn't contributed to the degraded state of society.

I suspect that it will be the JD Vance presidency sooner rather than later …

Tend to agree, think he will scale back some of his threats ie big tariffs, I think the corporate sector will dictate a lot of his moves/policies and I noticed he met with sleepy Joe and said he wants a smooth transition into the presidency.
I did laugh when I read somewhere that Trump rang Zelenksy and handed the phone over for him to talk to Elon Musk....maybe Elon is running the the USA and the world?

A friend who is a biological scientist with the US Forest Service has just received notification of the DOGE led by "the Great Elon Musk working in collaboration with American Patriot Vivek Ramaswamy" and expects to be unemployed within six months.  For him and thousands of dedicated scientists working in conservation and natural resource management, not to mention the national parks, forests and wildlife, the immediate future is looking very bleak.

His words, "If you voted for them, don't ever, ever tell me!"

Interestingly, the expansion of role of the US government in natural resource management was driven by Richard Nixon.

It's not an overreach IMO to assert that by modern standards, Nixon would be considered a moderate, maybe even slightly progressive, which tells you all you need to know about the rightwards continental drift of mainstream politics.

I have several US associates who have started canvassing Scientific Research or R&D jobs outside the USA almost overnight, not because they are anti-Republican but because they know what will happen on the Science and R&D side of industry under Trump's watch.

The irony for many of them is that Musk is publicised as and will be big on innovation, and Trump thinks he is some sort of venture capitalist "Shark Tank" superstar, but both are in it only as long as you can make it cheaply and sell it at a huge margin in the USA protected by US Patents, which usually means a China, Mexican or Taiwanese import. Yet those who voted for Trump think he's a jobs for Americans man, he might make some jobs, probably in fracking or drilling for oil because as a venture capitalist he is pretty much a Luddite!
