The public misconstrue the messaging coming from politicians and bureaucrats as the message coming directly from scientists, while scientists must curb messaging to comply with the "influence" politicians hold over the funding they need to do the work.

The reality is few if any public officials follow the unfiltered scientific advice, instead they walk a line between what is technically correct and what is politically / socially acceptable. Political opponents nearly always choose the extreme minority perspectives in a hope of leveraging marginal / minority support, the media does the very same amplifying the minority voice. They work together like some weird evil alliance to make the world a meaner place for personal gain, does that remind you of anything?

The laws of science are the same the world over. Some people are slower to adapt to it, but eventually catch up.

re Sweden...
I had a mate who went over there just before covid to live.
He was more than happy with how Sweden was dealing with it.
Not sure of how it is now, but their economy was thriving relative to other countries.

How you view successes and failures is dependent on your own (unintended) biases.
Which is the same for politicians etc.

It's interesting to read the new long term results have pretty much confirmed that the vast bulk of serious health issues that bloggers and anti-vaccine nutters liked to blame on the vaccination, including unexpected excess deaths plus some, turn out to be a long term side-effect of a COVID infection.

But then again, anyone open minded always knew that was a possibility, perhaps even a probability, it was only the nutters who definitively declared and associated these issues were vaccine related.

Consider this in the context of the barrage of social media, the withdrawal of certain treatments globally, the vast numbers of people who were never vaccinated as a result of those actions.

The scary part of this is that all COVID infections impart an increased risk, just that the worse the infection the greater the effect, that's not what you want to hear because it means nobody escapes increased risk. You can be asymptomatic, until you drop dead!

The vaccines used to fight COVID, at least the basic component of them, have just completed a round of successful trials in use to fight cancers, in particular the greatest success was leveraged in the treatment of melanoma, better than 40% remission.

Here is my cynicism again, but I wonder how long before the protests start? :o

COVID is far from done.

Talking to a associate today in who works in big Pharma, he said the medical sector is quietly raising the threat level in hospitals and health care facilities. Some are already back to masks. Apparently the new variant has much milder initial symptoms, but longer term patients are presenting with more severe secondary complications like internal organ damage to heart, liver, kidneys, etc., etc..

Don't shoot me I'm only the messenger, if you are in a high risk category don't believe the conspiracists, protect yourself.

Remember the US Department of Health most recent study asserts the major cause of death is now public misinformation and disinformation, with Donald Trump and Naomi Wolf the leading social media protagonists.

At least Elon will be happy to learn that, he's pushing the urgent need to reduce the planets over population.

But the problem is @kruddler, if they let rip they will take a bunch of innocent people with them, that was always the problem!

This is an indictment of our education system; comprehension and clear thinking should be a priority.

The only problem with allowing evolution to do its worst is that it takes too long, and we lose herd immunity.

no sorry not buying that at all. Sounds very much like a excuse to me!

Spin it anyway you want to but ‘the science’ has no answer for that one and cant have it both ways. Tried to sell us all a narrative then when it was obvious parts of the ‘science’ was proven to be inaccurate the narrative shifts to not lose face.

The odds of covid being a serious illness to those not medically compromised or those under the age of 50 was extremely low yet we were all locked up and grouped in one category as though the risk was equal.


Terrible management and our state will be crippled for decades as a result.

Doubt the people will let politicians push health regulations on us a second time.

Revisionist history; the epidemiologists were spot on and our health officers - and politicians of all persuasions - did a great job.

Up until Apr 2024 the USA had 3,642 deaths per million and Australia had 937. That’s a credit to the policies of our governments and our vaccination program.
It's still the Gulf of Mexico, Don Old!

The spin is in your conspiratorial words, ironic isn't it, all the begging for people to think freely using social media spin as "the information source". "They've" put the words in your head @Shawny, you did not invent any of it, you're Shawny the Sheep.

Science has always answered the question, not all people develop immunity, some only gain resistance, others nothing and a very very small fraction can cop a side effect, some have allergies, and like the impact of your alarmist allegations (another irony) most of the benefits are only temporary.
