Think we have a different ruckman who is impacting more, Harry couldnt get a game with Bolton, Martin and Betts have added class and Teague pays more attention to the opposition mids in particular.
Bolton just let class opposition mids run free in the name of development, the focus now is on winning games, players are having to self educate on the run now rather than being in school mode.

In all seriousness.

At the end of the day, Bolton ran out of time, patience and as far as I can tell the major thing that went missing at the wrong moment was belief.

That belief was in the playing group.  The group lost their faith in their ability to win.  It coincides with the club losing faith in the rebuild but the players lost faith in themselves, and their ability to win when it counted. 

Bolton's fortunes may would have been different, simply by Docherty not ruining his knee twice.

It was that close.  Lets recap a crucial period.

We beat the Bulldogs scoring our first 100 point total in the first time in years.

The following week against the Hawks in Tassie, Kreuzer broke down, and we broke down with him.  That loss appeared to be the tipping point with the benefit of hindsight.

We got belted a week later by the Kangaroo's.

Rallied against Collingwood the following week.

Got belted by GWS a week later.  Soul searching was done by the playing group in a players only meeting.

We never looked likely against the Saints a week later.

Then we played the Bombers, and once again didnt look likely.

Monday when Bolton was sacked occurred.

Did I agree with it?  No.  Was it the right thing to do?  History is showing us, that potentially it was.  I still am unsure, but we HAVE to let it go.  The club needs to move on.  Not dwell on this decision.  Teague is in charge, and that was arguably the best win I have seen since the game agains the Bulldogs last year.

I'm a Teague booster, but this issue of Teague being a success of failure is way to early to even consider!

I feel for Bolton, like it or not he had a lot of time, and even with warning shots being fired across the bow he wasn't able to find a way to change direction. Some of this is his fault, some of this isn't his fault, some of it is just luck which we cannot even call good or bad.

For 3 qtrs we were actually a good football side doing everything the side has promised for a while. We crapped our pants in the last qtr just trying to hold on to our lead rather than increase it but getting past a top side as we did, smashing them for 3 qtrs on the own dunghill will do the belief alot of good. Hopefully this is the game that changes everything. Time will tell.

My first thought, in the after game on the ground, that it was a Geelong supporter, who had snuck onto the ground. Looked so out of shape.

Jack Steven never has been, and never will be a specimen. He's always had that nuggety, short and squat body shape, but yes, as others have noted, was barely in good enough fitness for VFL. It feels a little disrespectful, like the Cats brains trust imagined this will be a canter, and Jack can have a nice, laid back, easy reintroduction to AFL football, against easy prey. The superstars will do all the heavy lifting, and he can get a few kicks and run around on his home turf, and all will be well.

Probably not, but I take your point. The Cats are a professional outfit, but like all of us humans, just got this call wrong in my view. I doubt they'll do it again. And after all that, let's not forget they were storming home in the last - another 5 minutes and I'm sure they would've rolled us, which would have been the greatest theft in AFL history.

This game is a bit of a head scratcher IMO. I can't remember one team being so dominant for 3 quarters then just hanging on by 2 points.

Agree the first 3 quarters was the best ive seen in too long to remember.

But I'm not sure the last quarter fade out was anything but our boys not being able to run out the game. We looked shot. 

Not sure if they are much fitter then us maybe as their midfield group is much more seasoned then ours but watching the game live it was definitely a matter of when not if they would run over us.

I can't remember watching a game where a team looked so dead on their feet as we did.  Haven't we got the fitness Guru?

Personally, I didn't get that feeling against Richmond. The Dees game was more evenly poised IMO - whilst I think we had the momentum most of the 2nd half (including the end) and may have won with some extra time, both teams were close enough in terms of skill, approach etc. The Cats game was very bizarre IMO. We went from hero to zero in what seemed like minutes.

I've watched it twice now, I suspect it was a headspace issue, we looked frozen not unfit, like we were thinking "Oh no not again!"

If you have time to re-watch it, take notice of our players in the last half of the final quarter. They look confused, and I suspect they failed to follow team orders in those moments. There is no way a coach will tell a team to flood back and leave nobody to kick the ball to, and he certainly won't tell 4 or 5 onball or forward players to sprint to the CHB position form a circle and guard 25m of empty space while the opposition play around the boundary! They(our blokes) got there ahead of the Geelong opponents and stood watching as our defenders played outnumbered on the boundary, that is not a fitness issue, it's panic!

Another one was when SPS cut across and poleaxed the Cats running defender, SPS stood watching then moved all too late, after the opponent had fumbled the mark, SPS had assumed the Cat would mark and he gave up.
