Its time we looked at different pace bowling options and not relying on our ageing quartet. The other major cricket countries are retiring their older quicks and introducing new players yet we seem scared to make the move and it will backfire down the track and leave us with an inexperienced attack unless we can blood some young players now and get them tutored by Cummins and crew. Re: God help me - the Test Cricket thread Reply #1536 – December 29, 2024, 06:49:00 pm Problem is there's no ramifications for substandard performances. Khawaja has clearly been on the slide for ages, Marsh is just s**t, the rest are very risky conveyances. Far too conservative with selection. Quote Selected

Unfortunately true: there never seems to be much turnover and form players just ... waste away.[1] Starc - if he isn't 100%, which seems reasonable, he should push himself tomorrow and then have a rest for the final test. He can come back when he is really fit.I'd be replacing him with Spencer Johnson, another lefty with real pace.[2] Marsh must go, fit or not: Marsh hasn't done anything with bat or ball, although he has taken some really nice catches. Get someone else in; Beau Webster is a better batsman than bowler and did OK in the trial match, Sean Abbot is a good bowler who can bat adequately, Tanveer Sangha is a spinner who the Indians haven't seen much of. He might not be the all-rounder we're after, but he could offer something on a crappy Sydney pitch.[3] Sydney pitch: I hope see a pitch that doesn't spin so much, but I would consider another spinner if the groundsmen in Sydney are idiots. After all, the Indian doctor their pitches for every game they play when they're at home. Tanveer Sangha is a good, young leggie. There are a couple of others as well that should be looked at.[4] Khawaja: alas, he is past it. Pity. I'd love to replace him, but we might not heading into Sydney: he has played well there in the past and it was his original home ground. I'd still be looking at someone else. Quote Selected 2 Likes
Re: God help me - the Test Cricket thread Reply #1538 – December 29, 2024, 07:27:04 pm Starc has exceeded my expectations this series, but he runs out of steam (because he tries), so yes, I'd consider giving him a break. I think we might do better with the Indians being exposed to somebody new. They might be getting a bit familiar with Starc et al. We need more bowling depth for Sydney. Quote Selected
Re: God help me - the Test Cricket thread Reply #1539 – December 29, 2024, 08:12:53 pm Fun fact: only Labuschagne and Cummins faced more deliveries than Bolo.If your number 11 can protect his wicket, why can’t the top and middle order do the same? Quote Selected
Re: God help me - the Test Cricket thread Reply #1540 – December 29, 2024, 09:08:20 pm Also says that the facing an older ball and tiring attack isn't too hard on this pitch. It was the same in our first innings and most of the third day. Quote Selected 1 Likes
Re: God help me - the Test Cricket thread Reply #1541 – December 29, 2024, 11:04:39 pm Bumrah looked like he was completely spent, and seemed to be favouring a leg.Given that the Sydney Test starts on Friday, I expect us to bat on and take a bit more out of the Indian bowlers. Quote Selected
