The NSW Cricket mafia has monopolised Australian cricket into domestic oblivion, the same hacks, the same nepotism, all busy making themselves fat at multiple troughs here and abroad.

They claim there are no better options, but it's a private club, outsiders are not welcome!

I'd be tempted to play Harris or Hunt, shift McSweeney to 3.  Love Marnus but he needs time away from the game to sort himself out.
I'd seriously look at Neser (injured?) or Wakim for Marsh.  Averaging in the thirties and contributing f-all with ball doesn't cut it.

Marnus technique has changed, straddles the crease and like his mate Smith gets squared up too far across in front of off stump. Anything moving away at pace or coming back in has him in trouble and he struggles to score unless the ball is full and in the slot to drive where he has shuffled across to.

its funny - smith and marnus are both self-confessed cricket nuffies, always thinking about it, always tinkering with their game.  both seemed to have tinkered their way out of successful techniques.   you hear trav head say that he goes months without touching a bat, and comes in and goes bang...

Overthinking 101!

Kohli has also tinkered with his stance but not to the extent that his shot making is compromised.

First it was the bowling was superb.
( We ran through India, apparently. )

Then the pitch was tricky.
( How could you bat on that rubbish? )

Then the pitch had settled.
( Settled, ......... FMD it must have sunk, India 1/∞! )

Now the pitch is tricky again.
( Changed dramatically, between innings it goes from road to lunar landscape! )

Why am I cynical? :o

Bowling superb? or as the Saffies and NZ showed the Indian batting isnt that great, as ProfE said Cummins was woeful with the ball
and should be dropped but is saved by his captaincy role.
Pitch is good imo, some of our players just have poor techniques and/or lack discipline playing poor shots.

I think that the pitch was better on the second day but it was OK on the first day.  The Indians just took a while to adjust to the bounce and pace.

You can’t take anything away from Bumrah - he isn’t rated as the best bowler for nothing - but, as you say, poor technique and lack of discipline played into his hands.

I’ll add another flaw; lack of direction!

As a person who knows nothing about cricket, it seems to me if you have a menacing fast bowler like Bumrah, you just put yourself in a position to win test matches more often than not. In contrast, our fast bowlers seem like Bums (pun intended).
2021-Pi$$ or get off the pot
2022- Real Deal or more of the same? 0.6%
2023- "Raise the Standard" - M. Voss Another year wasted Bar Set
2024-Back to the drawing boardNo excuses, its time
2025-Carlton can win the 2025 AFL Premiership

Yep for sure Bumrah is the best going around and would make things tough on a high school concrete wicket with no matting such is his quality of bowling but it was interesting to hear Josh Hazelwood bag out his batters and put the blame on them and show there is a bit of division in the ranks. The Aus assistant coach Daniel Vettori didnt care though and decided the IPL auction was more important to his wallet than staying around for the finale of the test and even the commentary box has been short staffed with ex captain and coach Ponting and Langar departing for the land of the great Rupee and to hangout with their Indian Masters and miss calling the ending of the game.

Sign of the times. And also, one of the reasons why viewers are dropping off. It may entertain (briefly) the younger generation, but T20 has no real substance. Essentially our cricketers are now entertainers being paid to perform for Indian audiences. I get in era of professional cricket that you need to earn a living, but you cannot buy a legacy.

Not sure why Cummins didn't play any red ball cricket since the NZ series last summer. Looked so short of a gallop.

Marnus woefully out of touch, Smith is cooked. Marnus needs to be dropped, Smith tapped on the shoulder. I'd bring a new quick in too for Starc. He might be unlucky we have to refresh the team otherwise they retire all at once. Starc is about to turn 35 and we need blokes to get a run before the Ashes next year. I'd put in Spencer Johnson, Jhye Richardson or Lance Morris, who are all bowling really well in the current state game. Richardson was unplayable last night. A couple of massive in-swinging yorkers at 145k got wickets.

Henry Hunt to Open, 106 in the current game against Richardson and Morris, McSweeney at no.3 where he is better suited, Inglis at 4 and one of the quicks above in.
