Kinda like Mark Waugh and more than a few others from that state.
Consistency sets the greats apart from the also rans.
I don't see what the selectors see in Green, Webster is a heart and soul team man. He may not have Greens talent but he's stood up when required thus far.

Agree on Green, he is no number three and very over hyped as an all-rounder given he hardly ever bowls.
Webster is a more reliable cricketer and I'd be picking him over Green for the No 6 spot.

Mark Wood bowled 8 overs in the lilac hill game and has been sent for scans on his hamstring after experiencing tightness.
Can't see him playing in the 1st test ,and if he does then he won't see out the game.

Everyone always says to pick the best performed shield players.  Green has been the best batter by a long way over the past feew years, at shield level.  his bowling is a bonus

Stokes took 6 wickets...............  every single one of them a slog caught on the fence!!!    The B Team, with only 4 specialist batsmen in the line up made 370odd at 5 an over, against the test attack.    this is their only warm up game

having said that - they will probably all be on fire for the 1st test

My old man was a cricket tragic.  He played one season with Carlton before the politics got to much and he went back to Coburg RSL.

Anyway, he was dead against all-rounders who could bowl a bit and bat a bit.  He always maintained that an all-rounder should win his place because he was the best batsman or the best bowler for that spot in the team.  For example, Richie Benaud was in the Test team because he was the best leg spinner.  His ability with the bat was a bonus.  Doug Walters was in the Test team because he was the best middle order batsman.  His bowling was a bonus.  Selectors these days seem to favour all-rounders who can bowl a bit and bat a bit.

I would call Green a batsman who can bowl but I don't think he deserves a Test spot on the strength of his batting.  Webster is more of a bowl a bit and bat a bit all-rounder but, in form, his ability to bowl off spin and medium pace gives him an edge over Green.

Excluding the Wicketkeeper / Batsmen, Webster is as close to a genuine All-Rounder that we have had in decades, 1st Class tons, 1st Class 5 wicket hauls.

Plus to me he has a toughness about how he plays the game, he can easily be as brutal with bat as Green or Marsh, and he won't waste over bowling half-track rubbish or no-spin pies like some of the alternatives.
