I think what has happened in the UK election shows being in power in a pandemic is a poison chalice, look around the globe and regardless of whether the incumbent incumbent party was conservative or socialist, they are now being punished.

The bigger worry, it seems in pretty much every location the hard right is gaining ground, they are favoured by nutters and protestors, it's bad for everybody.

Tories have been in for 14 years, England have overdone immigration and fallen behind in housing, infrastructure and have a welfare system culture and mass amounts of homeless folk.

The UK is stuffed.  Boris was a persuasive but incompetent buffoon who sowed the seeds of disaster and Brexit finished them off.

One of my favourite places, Orkney, is looking to leave the UK and hook up with Norway.  Apart from the historical and cultural links, Orkney claims that it gets better support from Norway than it does from Scotland and the UK. This could be the first step towards a disunited kingdom.

With the collapse of the conservative vote in the UK there were a few who needed to find a new party to support
Some did go to the right but many more went to the centre and left...so it kind of missed that 'right shift' occurring elsewhere in Europe.

Part of that result though was the Labour party itself moving a bit more to the centre...I doubt much will change on a whole range of issues.
One of the interesting aspects was the collapse of the Scottish National Party...independence might be on the backburner for a while.

France has had a little lurch away from the far right.

It looks like having a minority leftist New Populat Front government supported by Macron’s centrist party.  Marine Le Pen’s far right National Rally dropped to third place.

It's still the Gulf of Mexico, Don Old!

There is a worry in all this, it seems the downhill path is the route most often taken, and to combat extremist views the political parties are willing to become more extreme.

I don't understand how they think it is a good idea to pander to extreme views on either side of society, it just drives more conflict.

Yet people will continue to support him and find anything they can to defend this crook. 

Again he just continues to take no accountability for anything he has ever done - that alone sums the guy up.

Victoria is a basketcase after the Andrews years, just did a routine breath test today and the police officer doing the test told me they are 1200 members down(cant fill the positions) and have over 900 on sick leave due to burn out.
Having a statue of that clown Andrews is the ultimate "feck you" for Victorians who now have to pay off the massive debts created by him and his fellow stooges who have royally screwed the state over. Sadly the Liberals are a equally pathetic opposition.....the Animal Justice Party would do a better job.

Have quite a few mates in the force and the stuff i hear is really sad and disturbing at the same time. 

Andrews was not just a bad politician that made some poor decisions he is a cunning, corrupt, deceiving liar and the fact the libs couldn't gain power at the last election tells you how well that are travelling.

Sad whats happened to our great state. Critical health care and the state of our roads is appalling and yet considering how we are taxed they should be world class. Our great city is a ghost town that only sees big numbers when there's a strike. 
Andrews over the top, typical heavy handed stubborn Covid restrictions left us with a debt our great grand kids will still be paying off.  We were the most locked down place on earth which he was forced to do as he was playing catch up when he managed to kill 800 plus Victorians early days in the virus while other states had less 20. Again hes ego didnt like the look of that so stuff everything lock everyone in playground included no matter your age your risk factors whether your vaccinated or not. He was willing to bankrupt us to save face and he did it.

But again none of it was his fault. And not one ounce of remorse, wrongdoing or accountability.  

Yet we will find the cash to build the crook his statute.

Hows this for timing. i just read the Vic government has just increased the tax to release your will from $2200 (based on a 3M estate) to $7300.

Cant even die in peace in this state.

Labor and the Libs cooking up a deal together to cap political donations to prevent the Teals and the likes of Clive Palmer from buying votes with massive advertising campaigns. Simon Holmes a Court, with Climate 200, Mike Cannon Brookes etc threw money at their preferred candidates and we had well heeled Teals like the aptly named Allegra Spender putting 2.1mill into ger campaign to win the seat of Wentworth, Monique Ryan with 2.1 mill in the seat of Kooyong to defeat the former treasurer Frydenberg and Zoe Daniel around 1.5mill.
Parties would be capped at 90mill per election , an electorate level spending cap of 800k and donors limited to 600k cumulative per year. Donor names will also be disclosed above 1k.
The aim is to prevent activists and billionaires having their way at election time furthering their own interests and obviously prevent the growth of the Teal movement. These changes would have to be passed by Parliment and Im sure Clive Palmer will challenge it in court even though his United Australia party didnt gain any seats from his spending spree its more about the advertising juggernaut he created, taking air time from the main parties and being a disruptor that might cost those main parties seats in close electorates.

Someone always pays when a lot of money gets made, socially ethical investments are unicorns, the only difference between investments labelled good or bad is how many people get harmed and which complaints get heard!
