I think selection will tell a story re Evans.
For most he'd be an obvious 'out'
It may not be notceable to us mere mortals, (it's kind of eluding me) but if he's been given a specific task and has performed it well, got into the right positions, he'll keep his spot.
Selection i(getting in right) is a tough gig. Yes I know that's their job, but obviously a balancing act ATM. Kids that are not ready vs out of form established players. For me, I'd make a couple of changes. Out Acres, Doc or Evans. In 2 of Moir, White or L. Camporale.
Remember, we've won 2 out of last 12.
It's not a this year only issue

Evans...  not sure what to say about him, but he spotted up a 50 metre kick which got Kemp a goal.  Not easy he's no Eddie betts but I bet that he has something endearing.

....... and he got totally burnt by Motlop when he was in a perfect position for a goal.
And that's the 2nd time it's happened to him. Cottrell burnt him in exactly the same way in the Richmond game. Is that an indication that his teammates don't trust him to kick a goal from 20m out directly in front? Can't imagine it would be the case just 2 blokes being selfish I think.

Maybe our guys resent that we got rid of Owies and got him in - unfair in their eyes?
Reality always wins in the end.

To be fair, Motlop probably didn't know who he was, thought it was a random from the crowd who jumped the fence wearing full CFC kit.
2021-Pi$$ or get off the pot
2022- Real Deal or more of the same? 0.6%
2023- "Raise the Standard" - M. Voss Another year wasted Bar Set
2024-Back to the drawing boardNo excuses, its time
2025-Carlton can win the 2025 AFL Premiership

Good small forwards work in a team and get enjoyment out of creating for each other. Ginnivan has learnt to do that at Hawthorn and I couldn't see Mitchell tolerating Motlop burning other smalls and be tearing him into him

going the easy option of bagging Evans is no good.  He only found his way onto the list at the 11th hour of the season, and if not for two season ending injuries, may not even be on one.  The fact hes played in 60% of our games this year is an indictment to 40 blokes in front of him (the draftees from last year get a pass).

I would tend to agree. You really need your better players to be fit and firing and in form at the same time to win consistently. Guys like Evans at the tail of the list won't sway a result one way or the other IMO.

Nothing erodes morale like losing, 3 Leos - failure to even get near potential. Morale is further eroded when blokes playing well are let down by out of form blokes or not up to it (Evans). You don't think 'carrying' non-hackers erodes morale and confidence? Gifting blokes games based on reputation and good past citizenry is a recipe for... well... what we're seeing.

Matty Carroll, Will White, Ashton Moir, Lucas Camporeale, Billy Wilson and Ben Camporeale (in his brief appearance at VFL level) have all shown in pre-season, and early VFL/AFL games form which warrants reward. Some blokes will not shine at VFL level but show enough in potential and raw talent to be given a gig at senior level. Risky? Yep. Winners take risks.

Persisting with non-hackers will shatter the place, as evidenced by our second half capitulations so far this year - remember, we've led at half time in all our 3 games this year, then when real heat comes in the second half, we fold, badly. That's what happens when you've got 14-16 blokes trying to do their job of 22 - they have to do their jobs and cover for the non-hackers.

The MC must exercise ruthless objectivity when selecting our side, at the moment, much like last year, they're rewarding those who are delivering repeated ordinary poor performances with senior selection based on, what? Reputation? Hope? When you reward ordinary, guess what you get more of!!
we are talking about hackers though for downhill skiers and players not up to 4 quarters.

Winning is fickle.  Its a bounce a kick, a missed target.

Lewis Young probably had 2 efforts that cost us the game, but he was a worthy contributor so do you drop him for those efforts or hang onto him for playing his role?

Charlie is giving us half a game at the minute and he's gassed but we are poorer without him than with him and swapping him for anyone is fanciful.

I'm seeing players working and not reaping game day reward for effort by dumb luck.

I'm seeing calls to replace them for replacements sake.  We've been here before.  Players don't stuff up on purpose but pressure is something our team doesn't like and IMHO dropping players will only build it rather than release it.  Nothing changes things like winning but we will win in spite of personell change not because of it at the moment which is an important distinction.

Whoa there 3 Leos.
Reality: We've led all three games thus far this year at half time. Second half in all three games, we folded. We've won two of our last 12 games - that aint dumb luck or a fickle bounce.
I don't see anyone on here, or anywhere else calling for replacements for replacements sake. Nuh. I see folks here and elsewhere identifying out of form players and non-hackers, and suggesting possible upgrades.
No-one has suggested replacing Charles for just anyone.
Pushing up Evans because he did two good things in one hundred and twenty minutes is an incredible stretch.
I haven't seen anyone wanting Young out based on his game against the Dishlickers. He deserved and deserves his spot.
Every single player who pulled on the Navy Blue against the Dishlickers (Evans possible exception), at his best, is really good and deserving his spot, but a number of them are out of form, perhaps past it or delivering poor execution skills - turnovers and missed opportunities. Nothing to do with luck.
When we were forced to bring in inexperienced kids (with ability) late last season, they didn't let us down. And then when we dropped them for out of form 'reputations' in our first final - we embarrassed ourselves.
Winning isn't fickle, it's the reward for getting it right, more often than not.
Only our ruthless best, from Board to bootstudders will get us no. 17

Folks seem keen to give Moir a run, so maybe let it happen.
It's one of those shock tactics that sometimes work.
In fact, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he kicked three or four.
But don't crucify the kid if it doesn't come off.

If you want to diffuse all the 'sack voss' BS thats going around, this is the perfect way to do it.

As you've said, FOLKS seem keen to give him a run.....so MC should do it.
Its a win-win.
If it works, great.
If it doesn't work, it silences the supporters and proves the MC were doing it right all along.

So...do it.

Nah, we're a bunch of complainers. ;)

What will happen if it doesn't come off will be that those who saw the VFL game last week will be saying WTF were they thinking 'gifting' him games based on that. :D

It's more a "damned if they do, damned if they don't situation", rather than a "win/win" with football supporters

If its Moir for Evans though, those complainers wont want to admit they'd prefer evans in the side. So they'll let it slide. ;)

I disagree with you Principal LODS is the nicest possible way  ;D

I don't believe we're a bunch of complainers, most of what I read are folks identifying their perceived issues and coming up with their suggestions to address these issues and improve. To me, a 'complainer' is someone who simply whines about something and offers nothing else.

As for 'gifting games' we're gifting games to Gov, Acres, Evans, Fog and even Walshy and Doc at present. Does that mean we drop all 6? Hell no.

Distilled down to the biggest gifting, would be Evans and Fog. The others we know have what it takes and we back them in to turn their form around - particularly their disposal skills.

I have an odd expectation of small forward... to kick goals... yeah, I know, it's a wild, even bizarre expectation. I am even so silly that I want small forwards to be hungry to kick goals, even greedily so!!! And to have some tricks (Moir?)... now I'm just being a goose. And there is a bloke who has demonstrated good form pre season and in the Magoos - Will White.

...and by the looks of it White will be rewarded. ;)  ;D

I guess to me it boils down to a choice of players who aren't  performing at AFL level being replaced by players who aren't performing at VFL level.

Do we wait for the senior players to regain their mojo...or do we roll the dice and hope that the VFL guys can step up and give it a crack when they get the opportunity.
