Apart from Okeefe I couldnt get excited about too much from our listed players, Pittonet battled hard, Binns got a bit of ball after half time and was ok but the Campo's were quiet and when they did get the footy were a bit uncomfortable when under pressure.
Wilson used the ball ok in the first half and gives a bit of run but is only VFL standard, the player who may come under consideration is Evans who won the ball ok but couldnt hit the scoreboard and finish his work. I wouldnt select him but given the Crows torched us around the packs and our small forwards were AWOL he may get a call up.
Lemmey and Moir were like witches hats....the latter looks like he has zero interest in football and Lemmey just spends too much time unable to get near the ball and is pushed aside by smaller players in contests.
Id be playing Lemmey down back in the VFL in the second half of the season as a last resort to see if he can make it and Moir would be delist material.
Boyd was ok in patches but makes costly errors and his kicking has fallen away and he looks lacking in confidence and wants to fight his opponents rather than beat them with his skills...

6 of the top 7 possession getters were Coburg players, and 9 of the top 12. That is just not good enough! Not enough pressure, not enough run, not enough effort, not enough desire!

Lemmey: 5 possessions! Not good enough!
Ashton Moir: 7 possessions and not a single score! Not good enough!
That sort of effort is just not acceptable at this level.

We had a lot of players down today. O'Keefe was the only one to do something of note.
Live Long and Prosper!

Lemmey just spends too much time unable to get near the ball and is pushed aside by smaller players in contests.  Situation normal.

Agree with all of the above 2.
No-one really putting their hands up apart from the two ruckman

Just a slight defence of Lemmey.
On at least two occasions he was clear,  in good position, not a great distance from goal...and he was ignored.
With Pittonet, O'Keefe, McMahon...and Lemmey all up forward at different times (and sometimes the same time) it was probably a bit top heavy.
I'd also like to see Lemmey given an 'extended' run as key defender.
If nothing else it would be a good learning experience.

It will be interesting to see which way we go if they decide to go with two rucks next week.

It may even be worth naming O'Keefe as one of the  emergencies just to let him (and others)  know he's getting closer....but I'm sure they'll be letting him know he had a good game anyway.

I thought when Lemmey was played down back he did better and he was forced to get involved more, as Lods said he seemed to get ignored down forward with the other talls being preferred as targets.

Moir is taking the p1ss. We've been burned by so many half forwards I'm tempted to not draft one again.
DrE is no more... you ok with that harmonica man?

So far Moir has been pretty underwhelming.
The kid is still only 19 so there is time...
Did he have an injury during the off-season?
I don't recall.
If not,the concern is that with a full pre-season under his belt there seems to have been little progress, especially in terms of fitness.
He's struggling to have an impact at VFL level.

You would wonder whether this is still an accurate article still.

The small forwards didn’t get much attention in the 1’s either.
Let’s go BIG !

I cant get excited about the reserves when they cant beat Coburg. I dont care how many possessions, goals or HOs players get. We need wins but like with the seniors, the club seems to "accept" little pieces of good information amongst a train wreck and loses sight of the big picture. IMO a strong performing VFL side is critical to the success of the seniors. Until we fix that, we will experience year after year of roller coasters and pain. There is no depth there pushing up for a game.
2021-Pi$$ or get off the pot
2022- Real Deal or more of the same? 0.6%
2023- "Raise the Standard" - M. Voss Another year wasted Bar Set
2024-Back to the drawing boardNo excuses, its time
2025-Carlton can win the 2025 AFL Premiership

We probably need to take into account to some extent when assessing the performances of some of the younger players in our VFL team that they are in many cases playing against mature battle hardened players, many with a lot of senior AFL experience under their belts.
It may be even more the case with stand alone VFL clubs...who aren't developing youngsters of their own.

But yes, we certainly need to see more pressure from below on some of our senior fringe players.

I'd like to win every game but it's about development... building tanks, building bodies, building craft. If they train in a dedicated and professional manner there is a spot in the top 30-35 on the list for them by 21 y.o. If they can't get a spot in top 30-35 on the list after 3-4 pre seasons then its time to move them on.

Is it just me but do we have zero centre square players left in our list in the twos?  Any injuries to our mids and we're down to what, the Campo twins and .... ?

Hudson O'Keefe looked good in the highlights, rucking and marking well.  Has put on a bit of size.  Continued improvement and he might be looking at a main list slot.

Yep zero backup in the coalface centre square......Ben Campo didnt get near it vs the Coburg and his kicking is barely VFL standard especially over a distance. They have been using Evans on the ball and we have Cincotta missing who is probably our spare for Hewett if he got injured and we wanted a run with player.
Jagga Smith of course is a mid in training but isnt big bodied and we dont want him smashed up having to do coalface work.
Imho we need that Jai Newcombe or Shaun Mannagh type in the mid season draft who you can play straight away and share the workload with your stars as well as provide a couple of goals and id also look for that 191-195cm pacy rangy type of utility that a few clubs seem to have who can take a mark but also run the ball and is a good kick.
Weddle from Hawthorn, and the three from the Crows(Worrall, Michalanny and Curtain) are examples of players who can play a few roles and are that modern type of player. OFarrell hopefully can develop  into that type but is very raw at the minute.
