Seemed to have regained some mobility and a willingness to move further up-field, rather than staying put on the FB line - or was that because his opponent dragged him into the action. Whatever the reason, it was a welcome return to have him back in the action. Quote Selected

Without wanting to be a wet blanket, the Go Dees and umps helped us later in the game with errors.I thought the leaders led well - where's that been for so many months? Bravo: Charles, Crippa, Doc, Haynesy (though a little down) and Weiters. Cez, the Lord and Hewey also deserve a mention... the quiet achievers.Concerns: Will W seems to have lost his spark. Although only playing a quarter and a bit Durdin just hasn't any 'tricks' and for someone who's been in the system for years, that's a worry. Motlop and Fog.Perhaps unpopular to write this, but Frankie E, despite shortcomings, may just be worth persisting with. Ditto Flynn Y.Although Ashton M won't kick four every week, he must stay in the starting twenty two. One of those unique players up forward who can create something out of nothing with limited disposals/opportunities.Even though HOF will probably go back to the Magoos on JSOSs return, he'll be really important in 2026 and beyond - oozes talent.Carroll, Cowan and Hollands, rippers. Perhaps both he and Ollie Cap and VC. Love their attack on the footy. Quote Selected 2 Likes

May's hands are going for the footy at all times. May's problem is that his past indiscretions, rightly or wrongly, will probably count against him. Let's reverse the roles and say it was Weiters on Kosy Pickett, what would our thoughts be then? Dog act or footy incident? Quote Selected

The younger brigade stepped up for sure, and I was very happy with the performances of our mature core group. Went to bed reasonably happy last night. Quote Selected 2 Likes

Ditto Flynn Y.Fantasia and Evans were doing some of their best work before they were injured in the last two gamesI'm not sure either will survive the end of season cull, but I'm pretty sure one of the reasons they keep getting picked is that they play their role and follow coach's instructionsEvans is only 23 (24 next month) so there may still be a bit of improvement there but, I suspect there is a bit of quality in some of the other younger players starting to show up and the fight for spots may become harder. Re: AFL Rd 19 2025 Post Game Prognostications Carlton vs Melbourne Reply #21 – July 20, 2025, 11:15:12 am Hard to know what to make of that, or how much weight it will carry for the end of season decision making. Melbourne won most of the key statistical indicators, and on paper at least, should've won. We made the most of our chances, and were surprisingly efficient, so that's a plus. None of which is terribly convincing, and it did look like 2 teams who have had middling seasons, at least to my eyes.Nice to see some youngsters catch the eye and nice to see some oldies looking more like their best selves. I was sitting ponsford stand end and they were so quiet they were almost inaudible. Also Saturday night to only get 40k at the G (a generous 40k at that) isnt good enough and there was plenty of Melbourne colours in the MCC which means only one third of our membership base pulled their finger out in a very winnable game. Sure, we arent going well, and its easier to stay home when its cold, but the club needs us, the players will see a more empty crowd and feel differently about us too, but one of my other clubs has a saying (in greek). Olympiakos when its easy, Legendary when its difficult. They are nicknamed the legend, so I suppose it should be Carlton when its easy, Blue Baggers in the hard times. Despite the inappropriate translation, the sentiment is precise. Its easy to be a fair weather supporter, and we need to show that we deserve the big show and the big stage as much as the team does. Whilst generally I would agree with this it was an extraordinarily cold, dark, miserable night and the traffic was absolutely at a standstill coming off the Eastern and on Hoddle St due to presumably the Mernda and Hurstbridge lines being down due to the track derailment… it took a massive effort to get in last night. Re: AFL Rd 19 2025 Post Game Prognostications Carlton vs Melbourne Reply #25 – July 20, 2025, 11:27:13 am The more blokes we have out the better we get for some reason. Late last year, last 2 games, even though we lost the last game in the last 12 seconds (Saints were white hot late last year), we played some really good footy with 20 blokes out. Depth is better than we think, we don't use it enough. Quote Selected 1 Likes
