If we were serious we would have beaten that mob by 20 goals, 6 goal run was embarrassing in its clumsiness.

I was wrong about Evans and I was wrong about Haynes.

You're not Robinson Crusoe there, BM. An entire barn of eggs on my face after my comments on these two in their early games for the club.

With aggot in hand Frankie showed up Durdin, Fogarty and others... Big time. Terrific disposal by foot and footy IQ, and he hits the scoreboard - how novel for one of our small forwards!!

And Haynesy showed his class and footy smarts down back, consistently.

Smacked of a game where you play to the standard set by the opposition, a better team would have brushed this off and embarrassed them.

Well, I think that the debate over whether we should have taken Flynn Young or Liam McMahon has been resolved.

I felt just a little sorry for Liam as he sat forlornly at the back of the bench; he was on a hiding to nothing against Weiters.

I've always been of the opinion that we had good reasons for not picking him up as opposed to players we picked ahead of him. McMahon was under scrutiny from our list people fo an extended period. They would have known his strenths and weaknesses and how he would have slotted into our team.

But his situation at Essendon in the last half of the season was a little different to the role he would play in a fully fit Carlton side.
He was asked to be the main man.
In a Carlton side he would be third tall at best and probably not even in the side.
At a fully fit Essendon side, he may also struggle for a spot.

Now for the ones we've picked up instead of him at the various points where we could add players-White, Carroll, Evans and Young.
Carroll has a contract till 2027
Young and Evans are both showing a bit.
I suspect we'll keep Evans. I'd like to think we'd hang on to Young as well, at least for another year.
They give us a bit of depth.
Frankie may be starting 22 even with everyone on deck.
What we need to see with both those guys is how they peform against the really top sides....(and we wont know that until next year now)
White's probably in most danger of not being kept on, and that's a bit of a shame because the kid has a really good positive attitude. He's just behind the others with a few tricks

Same page, Principal Lods. I suspect we'll delist Whitey but hope he is then rookied for next year.

Good to see that some of our players can deliver the ball accurately by foot when they are under limited (or no) pressure, which is what the Bummers offered for much of the match - even though we still managed to serve up many mis-kicks when we put ourselves under pressure - Hollands is one who is guilty of this.

Wasn't impressed by Evans in his early games for us but his ability to kick goals has clearly elevated him above Fogarty (who misses too many sitters) in my opinion.

At the end of Ollie's exit interview, he should be handed a brand new Sherrin and told not to come back until he's kicked the bladder out of it.

It must be demoralising for the team when promising momentum is destroyed by a kick that pinpoints an opponent.

The other thing Evans does really well is position himself and/or find space depending on the situation.
Very good forward craft.
A couple of his early tackles were terrific too.

Yes, Essendon has been smashed by injuries and they've played a record 15 debutantes this season to our seven.

However, according to the Fox commentators, our average age was a bit younger (Footywire says our average age is a month older).  We had 13 players with less than 100 games to their 12, so both teams lacked experience.

We should have won more convincingly, and we would have if Harry's radar was on ... and Franky hadn't tried to gift TDK a final goal.

I think it’s unrealistic to expect a 120 point victory from us when teams above us on the ladder have not managed this feat, although a couple have got close.

It certainly wasn’t a great game, and both teams were guilty of occasional, pretty average football. I think the score line flattered Essendon, and if we nailed some gettable shots on goal, it could’ve been a 9 or 10 goal victory.

A win is a win, but an average game with moments of enjoyment and promise for the future.

Still don't get the fascination for Evans, Young & White.

No, we don't really need small forwards who kick goals and set up scoring opportunities. :D

I thought Hollands was really good by hand in tight, I don't see the poor kicking that others see.  I think the good outweighs the bad.  On the other hand, Durdin, his field kicking is awful and for one who barely gets it gees he wastes it.

Playing against an U/18's team even you would look good Lods.

I’m with you, we’re scraping the bottom of the barrel

A minimum of 3 (more likely 4) of Durdin, Fogarty, White, Motlop, Young and Evans will need to be replaced this offseason.  I’d be leaning toward keeping Motlop and Evans only - time to find the next Eddie, Kozzie, Cyril which is obviously easier said than done.

I wouldn't take much notice of the last 2 weeks which were like practice matches.
We came with the right attitude and right plan, that's what you can from it, not so much who we played. Something we haven't seen all year. Last 9 qtrs we have played good footy, starting with that scintillating last qtr against the Suns.  Attitude is what I want to see, we can then work on the rest.

Or we play better against sides who are below us on the ladder.
