Only 9 overs, LP.

The biggest inequality in test cricket is what countries are willing/able to pay players. Last year (?) Sth Africa sent a second string squad to NZ for tests as there were too many others on the T20 circuit - partly because SA cricket was close to broke.

Could be the last test series we play vs the former mighty Windies, with a two tier system being planned they are destined to be in tier two and no future test series have been planned vs Australia.
Its a real shame and the other wealthy cricket nations probably need to think about how to help them and foster the game in the Caribbean so they are not lost to the sport.

Well, it looks like Boland's selection might have been forced upon the team / captain, in conditions ideal for Boland, a ball swinging about under lights on a seaming pitch, the Victorian wasn't given an opportunity by the captain until the last over of the day, with the embedded trio of NSW compatriots Starc, Hazelwood and Cummins the primary bowlers.

You mean gets elevated for one game, doesn't get a chance to find his feet, and then gets dropped again?

Yep, beggars belief doesn't it, Professory.

Yet, Durds, puts in an okay VFL performance, bang... Straight back into the seniors where he tackles, chases... and... that's about it. (Nothing personal, he's obviously a wonderful person, but AFL standard... he aint).

Our line-up for this round:

B:  [4] Keeley Skepper  [3] Darcy Vescio  [50] Eliza Wood
HB:  [11] Yasmin Duursma  [80] Matilda Fitzgerald  [13] Aisling Reidy
C:   [14] Siofra O'Connell  [15] Meg Robertson  [18] Emily Elkington
HF:  [23] Lila Keck  [33] Lou Field  [16] Breann Harrington
F:  [42] Tara Bohanna [15] Summer Hall  [49] Madeline Hendrie
R:  [82] Mary Robinson  [73] Mia Fuller  [58] Grace Matser
Int:  [62] Amy Trindade  [79] Hannah Scott  [66] Steph Demeo

Don't take much notice about the positions named: Garce Matser is the ruck, for example, not the rover.

At 3/4 time, the Blues are 83 points in front!
Carlton: 13 - 6 - 84
Western Bulldogs: 0 - 1 - 1
I can barely believe it!

Robinson 4 goals
Breann Harrington (née Moody) 3 goals
We have 9  of the top 10 possessions getters on the field!

@kruddler

Now that the season is dead, you set standards.  You a kid wanting to play AFL footy?  You need to bang the door down like this VFL hack who isnt good enough.  Why is he so much better at the level than you if he's rubbish?

AFL players?  You want to play AFL footy or continue at the club?  Dont go to the VFL and give us what Blake Acres did today.  He should have been one of the best on.  Instead he was just going.  The workrate was there, the ability to hit targets not.  Thats a negative for an important senior player.

Set the standards now.  Playing the kids at AFL level before they have time, or gifting us games through a rebuild is precisely why we are rubbish.  Brisbane's Deven Robertson has been squeezed out of their senior team.   He has that many players ahead of him, you could forgive him for going at half rat power.  They were 6 goals up with 10 minutes to play, and he ended up with a bloody nose because of his commitment to the contest, and statistically was 2nd best Lion on the day, out of 18 senior listed players.  He isnt guaranteed a game next week, and it shows.  Our boys by contrast, dont want it enough. Set THAT standard.  Its way more important than gifting any young kid a game.

Look, i get it.

Set the standard, reward VFL form etc. Thats fine. That CAN lead to improvement on field. Its what we've done in the last few weeks though and how has that worked out?
If we only picked blokes who were setting standards, we'd have about half a teams worth of players running out each week.

So...that ain't working. Remembering we rewarded Evans 2 weeks ago, then found him wanting and shafted him back to the 2's, now we want to promote him again? Its not helping us, him or anyone.

We have to make some very tough calls this off-season. We've got 6-7 weeks to gather a wealth of information that we normally wouldn't be able to do if we were still in finals contention. Don't blow it.

Lemmey is possibly more likely to be delisted then re-signed for next year. Are we 100% certain thats the right thing to do?
Play him in the 1's and find out.
White? Young? Play them.
Evans and Fantasia....we know what we will get....what do we gain by playing them??

Billy Wilson....Jaxon Binns.....at this stage, i'd delist them both. Play them and see if they can surprise you.
Give Charleson a crack while you can.

These blokes will give you more effort in the 1's than most of the team so far. We are not playing to win. So what are we playing for??
Not a few weeks.  This needs to be our modus operandi from now on.

Set the standard, make the standard.  The names eventually will be good players banging on the door wanting to play footy instead of rocking up, expecting to play, playing ok here and there asking for a million dollar pay day and not caring.
