Mr Sritanaamorn was slashed across the face with a samurai sword while trying to protect his wife and young daughter during the terrifying home invasion.

In shocking scenes captured on CCTV, one officer tackled one of the alleged armed robbers as he tried to flee the car, while the neighbour joined in and landed several blows with his baseball bat.

I missed this one which again just shows how common it is these days.

See i reckon this stuff was common back in the day, the coverage wasn't there.

Depends on which day, but I do remember carrying trolley poles in our bags in case of emergency.

Something else to consider. Melbourne is nudging 6 million people. A greater number of incidents doesnt mean a statistical rise in incident per capita which is the only objective measure of safer now or safer then.

Example. Which society is safer?
A population of 6 million with 200000 crimes committed per year? Or a population of 2 million million with 75000 crimes per year?

You'll hear more crime in the population of 6 million reported more frequently, but its still safer than thr alternative.
