All I'll say is if Betts, Fisher, Fogarty or Martin can read the ball of the pack like Gee did, we'll be in good shape! That goal was straight out of the manual!!
Carl win against GC (30pts) & GWS (15pts) = 20 points @ 119% NM lose against Freo (20) & Bris (20) = 20 points @ 127% WB lose against Ade (10) but beat Tigers (15) = 20 points @ 102% Mel lose against Bris (10) & Freo (10) = 20 points @ 119%
That takes care of spots 5-8 so if it goes to plan, it will be nothing but % that makes finals.
In the above scenario, i made up IMO likely scores of all games and then worked out % last it actually meant we make finals by 0.8%....which is about 2 behinds worth.
After a solid effort against Freo, we should have an easier week this week against Gold Coast. However, we can not take them lightly as if we are any chance of making finals, we need to bury our next 2 opponents and increase our %.
Friday 'night' match is something a little different at this time of year and it will give us a short week, especially since we have to travel! Not sure a 5-day break after a gruelling match is what we need right now, but if wanna contend, we can't make anymore excuses.
My predictions... In: Walker Out: Walker
I've been calling for Al Downies head the last few weeks and while she was far from impressive, her playing down back has freed up Harrington who has put in her best 2 games of the year courtesy of this.....so Downie stays....for now.
The losses early in the year are what cost us. In the end reality is we haven’t been able to live up to high expectations. Not up to the level of the top teams.
Losses early did cost us. Not having Pound for the start of the year hurt more than people realise. Doesn't play a bad game does Pound. Missing Walker for the whole year so far (and Dalton for the whole year) basically meant we had to change our style to compete.
Overall we've had a good year. Just haven't won the tight ones.
We lost to Collingwood by 6 points We lost to Dogs by 6 points We lost to Freo by 4 points We lost to North by 22 points in the only disappointing game we've played......and we didn't have Prespakis for that one (or Loynes)
Add Walker and Dalton and i'd say we are a goal better side and all of a sudden we have only lost 1 game for the year.
btw., How can that not be a trip to Prespakis, clear open play and player's leg trips the person in front of them, accidental or not does not matter, that cost us a goal?
There was plenty of decisions (and non-decisions) that cost us a goal (or got them a goal) and that wouldn't rate in the top 10 IMO.
I thought overall that the umps were good. Things went against us in the last, and against the breeze, it made things hard.
